Hi all!

Unfortunately Poppy's windscreen has a very nasty crack right accross the centre out from the corner, which is growing fast; plus it's very nearly MOT time!

So, I contacted Autoglass who agreed to replace it via my insurance for a small excess fee (it was that or over £800!). Booked in a slot, paid, fine.

They have now called me today to confirm that they made an error and don't actually have the right glass in stock and have been unable to source a windscreen for it anywhere in the UK!

In the end, they've said they've ordered one from Mazda to be made to order which they expect to be coming from Japan as they don't think there's any left in European stocks. As a result, I've been told to expect this to take at least another 3 weeks and then they'll update me once it's in the UK to set up a date for fitting.

Has anyone else had issues getting a windscreen replacement anytime recently for their BG?

(sidenote - Poppy is still on her original windscreen from '94 until now!)

I'm guessing the "error" Autoglass made was to assume it was a BA not a BG. That year saw an overlap of registrations, there are both BG and BA with "L" year registration and also both BG and BA with "M" year registrations.
My BG had a new windscreen when it was about 2 years old. The small crack at the edge was there for a while then one day it was all across the screen. Back then it was easily available, but I can guess that now it must be much more difficult to find.

That would definitely explain it Jingle, I wouldn't be surprised either; I've had a garage do the same with ordering suspension parts and not realising until they come and dont' fit.

Update on the windscreen - It's somehow managed to get to the UK sooner than expected, arriving early next week with fitting later in the week - Thank you Mazda & Autoglass!

Quick update a few days in delay - The new windscreen has been fitted!

I did the removal and re-installation of the trim panels on the sides of the windscreen as Autoglass didn't have anyone that knew this generation of 323 left!

Unfortunately, while one side came off and back on fine, Poppy has spent time with one side in the sun a lot, so the other side was more brittle and snapped a clip and part of the top of it - Nothing superglue couldn't fix! Now re-installed and just as tight as the other side!

The seals on both sides of both trim panels, while still there, where no longer in place or really attached. Superglued them back to the trim panels as they all looked still to be in good condition and now they nicely seal the pillars from water and direct airflow around and not into the trim.

Removal of the trim panels is easy - unscrew a single screw near the top, visible when you open the door then they simply slide off their clips upwards. Refitting is reversal of the removal, but watch as they will bend slightly to fit, opportunity to snap if they are brittle.

No rust was found at all around the windscreen on the roof, either pillar or below - very happy with that

The seal on top of the windscreen was rotten and Mazda no longer supply them, so a custom aftermarket one was fitted with a tighter fit than the original and now giving her a slightly cmoother airflow over the seal too.

This week's storms have battered her and there's no leaks to report, plus she has slightly less wind noise on the motorway thanks to the 'revised' seals!

All in all, it's gone quite well in the end. I hope this helps anyone needing their windscreen replacing now or years into the future in the UK

Glad you said that, I have a broken trim I need to remove and try to fix unless anyone has a spare drivers side one knicking about

Also can you pm me a link to that trim you bought and used, I think my window trim needs replacing so I may get them out to remove and replace the window while I do the trims like you did?

Over in Aus I had my local windscreen place got it in stock same day. Would've thought it'd be more common in the UK, there's not too many around here. I'd post the brand but it's too late in the night to check. My place took it all apart, didn't break anything that I noticed but I didn't look too closely.
