Hi everyone ...It´s been a while since I post an issue, my BA 1.6 was doing great till now.
The engine won´t fire and the last thing I checked was fuel reaching the rail .....it doesn´t.
I removed the hose just between the fuel filter and the rail ( injection ) to see if the fuel reaches that point But ... no luck..!
There is a continuos " humming beep " coming from the engine bay ,, behind the injector rail when you turn the key before cranking. that I hadn´t noticed before

I also :

Placed a wire straight from the positive battery terminal to the fuel pump, it didn´t work

checked spark on all 4 plugs , they´re ok
battery turns 2 years old on the 20th of April

swapped the fuel injection fuse to see if that was the problem ,but it´s ok

So now I have the fuel pump in my hand and I´m wondering if these can be fixed or do I have to buy a new one...? First I´m going to test it

I'm sure they can be fixed if you want to go through the trouble and time of taking it all apart, diagnosing the problem area or part, ordering the replacement parts, fitting them and putting it all back together ready to test. OR just buy a new one that will more than likely cost around the same as the replacement parts but come with warrantee etc.

Infact, I think you'll struggle to get specific parts as they will come as completed units but I could be wrong

But I would also add do you want to muck around and risk something going wrong with a ~20 y.o. somewhat complicated and precision device designed to pump an inflammable fluid around at high pressure?

For safety's sake get a new one or at least an intact one from the wrecker's that works.

Good points there fellas .... the thing is that I think I´m the only one driving a BA in this place ...there were only five circulating when I bought this one and that was Not in the same neighbourhood .
No spare parts or wreckers for these beautys ....and ordering on-line will take sometime , so I guess I´m rat shi... at least for a while

Mazda are usually good at parts commonality. Are there any other models to get parts from- MX-3? Eunox 30X? Demio/121 (maybe)? 323 (other?) 626?

It's also quite possible that if it was 'off the shelf' it may be in other Japanese vehicles (or even Euros if it's some sort of Bosch etc common system). Toyota Corrola? Nissans? You might have to ask a wrecker/mechanic.

May also be the local auto parts store can help- either with an aftermarket replacement or pointing you in the right direction.

Ebay is also returning a lot of hits (at least in Oz) but not sure if they are for your model.

Not familiar with the setup, but if it's a straight in-line pump with simple power and in/out lines then if you know the flow rate and pressure required you may be able to use any pump that matches.

check your relays are working, the small humming noise you mention could be one of them stuck, which does happen. if one is stuck open the electro magnet inside can produce that sound and can cause fuel pump not to work

Tell ya what ... I was able to get a BOSCH fuel pump ( 40psi ) , much similar in shape to the original japanese that has been in the car for the past 17 years... and after I replaced it , I was able to start the car once and the same thing occured.

So..... how many relays are related to this issue ? ..and where are they located exactly ? (any photos )

relays are in the engine bay, under black cover near to air box

I think the problem is a combination of two , because when I jump the positive pole from the battery straight to the fuel pump ..am I not bypassing the relays ...? it should start .. right ..? at least with the new pump it should anyway , I´ll try that . and check the relays also of course. while I´m at it I´m going to clean the connectors with alcohol and a bud.

also check the slow blow fuses in with the relays, they dont blow easily but with the age of our cars they do tend to wither a little. Tho the humming noise does suggest to me that a relay is trying to work but is stuck
