a few weeks back my sisters boyf stuck a cd player in for me. duno wot he did cos since then ive got no rear lights and no dash lights . i thought it may be the fuse so checked the interior fuse box and saw the fuse had blown. so i changed it but when i turned the lights on i heard it blow straight away. very strange i looked behind my cd player and there seems to be a small black clip which is not plugged in. do u think this mayb the problem.

please help me cos at the mo i cant drive at night time

Has your B/F grounded the stereo correctly?

Has he grounded it to the chassis or something else?

Etc...

It would appear that this chap has attached the live for the HU to the dahsboard light circuit, and has neglected to insulate the live feed to the HU correctly, or possibly he's grounded the speakers to the chassis, instead of to the speaker "-" wires. It's hard to tell without having a look.

Was that an offer Smotter? you gonna pop over and have for him?

hey guys, basically the genious looked at the wires comin out the new player and colour matched them up to the ones comin from the car. so god knows wot hes connected. there is a earth wire i assume cos its brown and goes nowhere and as i said that black clip. i think i might have to call someone out to fix it. great more moeny speant.

Ooohh, now there's a lesson

Never assume - check - especially as the earth wire in a mains plug is green/yellow or just green if it's old, and the LIVE is Brown!!

And sometimes, the speaker wires for one of the channels might be brown ...

hmm if i had my book i would scan the wiring diagram for your deck... but i have seem to misplaced it =P

i hope you never payed him? if so i hope he is paying for all the repairs!!

i would suggest taking the stereo back out and taking it to a proper auto electritian and get it refitted

Might be the earth wire on the head unit hooked up the the earth on the lights. i done this once. when the HU was on, The lights wouldnt work.


try keeping the HU right off and replace the fuse. see i the lights work again.

just while we're on the subject of funny earth's etc. my temp guage goes up if you wind the lekky windows up and/or fiddle with a large amount of lekky stuff - whats happening there any ideas?
