anyone got any idea which fuse might be responsible for the electric aerial motor? Changed the whole unit when the aerial was snapped off.. but there doesn't seem to be any power getting to it when i turn the ignition on. Thinking fuse.... ?

Do the interior lights/radio etc work? If i remember correctly, the aerial is connected to the ROOM fuse :thumbleft:

Dam... chances are i've bought a dodgy aerial then :( The room fuse blew when I removed the sub from the boot... put a new one in, stereo, central locking etc all worked fine again. But aerial still refuses to move :(

I've now tried two other aerials... one which I was unsure if it worked to start with, and one which has come from a forum member as tested and working. Yet is STILL doesn't budge. The connectors are all in etc, and I gather it just runs from the room fuse (which is fine)... so i'm guessing all that is left is the wiring itself? :(

Yep, its the room fuse. It might also be the connection to the head unit, or the head unit itself that is faulty. Basically, there is a wire in the loom that the head unit sends +12v down to the aerial, which triggers it to extend the mast.

Did it the aerial used to go up and down, and then stop all of a sudden completely? Has the head unit been changed?

If you have a multimeter, check for 12v in the aerial plug. There are 3 wires, one is black which is ground, the other two, if I remember right, are pink and blue on a post ford like yours Murdo :thumbleft:

I can't remember which way around it is now, but you should have a constant live 12v in one of them, and a switched live in the other. I THINK the pink is the constant live, then the blue is live when the radio is switched on. If not, it's the other way around. This switched live trips a relay inside the aerial unit which reverses the direction of the motor (hence putting the aerial up). When you turn the radio off, the current stops, relay goes back, aerial goes down :)

If you haven't got a multimeter, you can use a 12v christmas bulb! Make sure it's 12v otherwise it will just blow, but put one leg of the bulb in the black pin on the car's connector, then put the other in one of the others. If it lights up, it's live :)

I reckon, if none of the aerials are working, it's probably the feed from the headunit (usually blue on the headunit) which isn't sending anything to the aerial.

I was worried about that.... the head unit was fitted by halfrauds, and in looking at it, it certainly looks like a botch job! I'm gonna go with it being the feed from the head unit.. If I remember correctly, there's a blue wire there not connected to anything?! It was connected to a sub in the boot.. which got sold....

Boom, there's your problem. That blue wire is the feed which switches on any accessories. It should be connected to the sub AND the aerial :thumbleft: At least that's what I remember when I fitted my sub in my 1.5 almost 2 years ago

Get a multimeter on that blue wire on the stereo, it should read 0v, then when you switch the stereo on it should read 12v :)

the blue wire isn't connected to the stereo... its terminated and hanging loose.. where would I connect it to the stereo? or is that stereo dependant.. lol

Oh  as a test, connect it to the positive battery terminal to see if the aerial goes up. If it does (or tries to), you've found the culprit!

It does depend on the stereo but your stereo loom should have the wire/connector there already.

See this diagram, you should have connectors A and B in your car. Pin 5 in connector A is the one you want :thumbleft:

I've got one of the mazda to ISO adapters here, and the aerial trigger wire is part of that, and it is a blue wire on this too, but your head unit may have it as a seperate wire that isn't part of the ISO connectors that came with it.

One of my previous head units was like this, it was another seperate blue wire, had one for the amplifier and one for 'power antenna'. Took that and a scotch block and attached it to the blue wire on the Mazda to ISO adapter. That make sense?
