Yeah - Mazda electrics are funny that way. I had an accident about a year and a half ago - ran into the back of my neighbor's 4X4 while we were looking for my wife's Jetta, which had just been stolen !
There wasn't a scratch on the 4X4 - huge steel bumpers everwhere, but Edith (my car) was a mess. The bonnet was folded up almost to the windscreen and the entire radiator mounting was pushed back about 6". Remarkably, the radiator was OK so I could still drive home, and to the panel beaters the next day ...
What was my point again ? Oh yes - the electrics. I noticed about a week after getting her back that the rear windscreen wiper wasn't working, and the buzzer that tells you you've switched off the ignition with the lights on didn't work either. I took it to an auto 'leccy who spent a day on it and evetually said he wasn't sure what was wrong, so I left it.
A few months later, I was reversing out of the drive-way early one morning. Tthe rear window was misted up so I didn't see that the electric sliding gate wasn't completely open yet. The result was that I clocked the gate with the edge of the bumper. Luckily the damage was minimal, and all but invisible after the application of a little brasso to remove the gate paint.
Imagine my suprise that evening when I got home, switched of the engine and heard a buzzer buzzing ! With baited breath, I switched on the rear windscreen wiper, and off it went, merrily going up and down !
So chaps, before you spend a fortune in auto electricians, try reversing into something solid first; it could save you a fortune !!!
