can someone please let me know where on the car I can bleed the clutch?

I think there might be air trapped in the system.

Any advice before i do this?

Cheers

The slave cylinder is low down at the front nearside of the engine (behind the radiator). I haven't bled the clutch myself, but I think access is fairly easy perhaps from the top or maybe underneath.

Good luck.
Neil.

Thanks neil,

you wouldnt mind pointing out exactly where it is on these pics would you as i want to make sure I think its just left of the nut on the first pic? Also is there any specific procedure to remove any trapped aire.g. pumping the clutch.

Cheers!!

It looks to me that you are pointing to the right bit, to the left of that nut in the first pic...

bleeding is same as brakes - put a hose onto the bleed screw, put that into clean fluid etc, get a friend to press the pedal and hold it, open the bleed screw on the release (slave) cylinder, once fluid stops coming out, tighten bleed screw, release pedal. Repeat the process until all the air is out (no bubbles)

clutch release cylinder is at the front of the gearbox housing, it has a pipe going into it, and a bleed nipple, possibly covered with a plastic cap.

Look down here...

and you'll see this, which is the bleed screw, complete with plastic cap :)

Can get to it from underneath ;)

thanks marcrs looks like thats it!!

do you know if i can top my the brake/clutch fluid with dot4 fluid. I know the manual states dot 3, however, after many services i would of thought this would have been replaced with dot4?

can you mix the two???

cheers

Apparently they are both polyethylene glycol-based. Dot 4 has a higher boiling point, but should be ok to mix with dot3

I'd stick Dot4 in it ;)

is the reservoir cap meant to be on or off when you do this or does it not matter? It is true that the clutch fluid is shared with the brake yes?

I think i've managed to get some air in the system somehow as now the car wont engage in gear and theres no feel in the clutch.

brake and clutch fluid in the same reservoir. take the cap off, keep it topped up while you're bleeding it :)

Doing exactly as said. Holding pedal down. Openining bleed screw. Fluid Comes out. Close Bleed screw. Repeat. Top up res as necessary.

Any ideas anyone??

You might need to check the master cylinder, sounds like it could be a bigger problem than just air in the system...

What was the outcome? I've got a similar issue but before I attempt to replace the fluid I want to make sure I'm doing it right.....
Cheers

Just wrestling with a BA clutch bleed and this post:
https://www.club323f.com/forum/viewtopi ... eed+clutch
is really useful. The bit about bench bleeding (while attached to car) and open-closing the bleed nipple while someone is working the pedal really helped. It takes ages.
