have been quoted £140 for a cam belt change is that a good price??

If thats all in then yeah sound ok to me. I paid £80ish for my 1.8 and its twice the work on a V6.

Bite their arm off for that!!

...I just paid £328 for 108000 service & Cambelt change... and I bought the cambelt and oil!!

thats a good price yeah, I paid £160 inc parts for a cambelt cahnge on my V6 at over 103,000 miles and mazda dealer quoted over £300 all in.

I'm sure the Mazda dealer that did mine charged £180 + Vat, including Belt and 1 year warranty. Its a fixed price job so Main dealers should not be able to charge more.

I will check my bills though.

My local Mazda place quoted me about £585 all in!! (I hope all in meant that they changed my alloys to PLATINUM ones too!! :P)

....maybe different parts of the country have different 'standards'.

For a V6 98 model. Apparently takes 1.5hrs or so.

I had better check the bill before i say anymore though. I have been known to be wrong

Seen it mentioned about other cars where cam belt is a pain to replace, (not only talking about V6's here either!!) that its best to change water pump too, as while the cam cover is off, and its easy to get to its best to change it for convenience sake, and to stop any problems occurring with pump in case it does decide to leak or whatever.
Anyone has any views on this?

1.5 Hours to change the Cambelt on the V6?! ...that should be interesting as they have to lever the whole engine out to do it!!

The garage I took it to said that their book claims 3.5 hours, but I have heard it can take longer than that; in fact, the garage had to keep the car overnight as it took much longer than they estimated!! (He he, makes me feel a little better about having paid so much now!! )

price i was quoted was just to change the belt and included a replacement belt!

I had to replace my water pump on my 1.8 16v at 150000 km (almost 100000 miles) I took it to a non-Mazda garage and I got them to replace the cambelt while they were at it. The job took 2 days and they charged R2400.00 (about 105.00 pounds at current exchange rate) That includes cam oil seals, cam belt and the (genuine Mazda) water pump. Come to sunny South Africa chaps - the water's lovely !!

PS - another advantage - Catalytic Converters are not compulsory here so the sky's the limit on free-flow exhausts ...

Funny that, cost me £80 exactly as well. I didn't even bother to ask for a quote from a main franchise...!
