:( Driving home from work today my car had a little "brain fart" and kept stuttering just as I was applying the "go" pedal.

I replaced the ignition leads a little while ago, and had a new exhaust fitted too, but probs only just started today.

I did let the tank go down to almost empty (something I never usually do) before filling up, and the problems seemed to stem from then.

It happened for a couple of miles, then stopped for another couple, then started again, this time much worse. I stopped and reseated all the ignition leads, started off again and it was gone all the way home.

Sometimes it also felt like I was hitting a brick wall when I let up on the throttle too, and then major lag and a lurch as it starting working properly again.

I'm guessing that I sucked some sh*t out of the bottom of the fuel tank and this is what caused the problem, but anyone else any ideas :?: :?:

Thanks in advance...

The easiets way is to disconnect the battery, but i am not sure if this effects anything else.

I would recomend using a petrol cleaner like redex if you are having a fueling problem. This stuff will clean out your fuel tank, pipes, injectors etc, works atreat if you havent done it before.

Hi mate, I also forgot to mention that I put some redex in the tank, about 30 ml for £20 fuel.

Is this likely to have anything to do with it?

I tend to use a fuel system cleaner roughly every three months (either STP or Redex)

Do I just disconnect the battery and reconnect, or do I leave it for a while?

Thanks again

A.

It's been said to leave it a couple of hours or over night if you can.

Just disconnect the negative terminal and hold your foot on the brake pedal for about 20 seconds, this will reset the ecu and remove any error codes that are stored!
Theres no need to leave it disconnected over night
As for cleaning the injectors,it will cost but if they have never been done b4 it will be worth your while getting them pulled out and properly cleaned and flow tested,i did this to mine when it had 50,000kms on the engine and made a nice difference, ill be doing it again soon when it reaches 100,000kms

Ok I took the Dizzy cap off today in my lunch break, and for want of a better phrase it's not looking too healthy (broken with a capital "F" is more appropriate)

Also there is a bit of oil escaping from underneath it - I had the cam belt done last year, and the rocker cover now leaks like a sieve!

So two questions: -

1) Am i likely to win against the dealer who did the cam belt if I take the leaks to them and say "sort that out you monkeys"?

2) How do I replace the rotor arm, does it just pull off the shaft, or is it locked somehow??

Thanks guys

A.
