in my opinion. u can take a perfectly good mazda, stick ford badge on it and it wil start leaking oil and breaking down. if u take a crapy ford an stick a mazda badge on it, it wil stop leaking oil and be more reliable than a swis buss drivers pace maker. :blackeye:

Am i right in thinking that the pre-fords dont have the adjustable headlights?

My replacement headlight fitted as part of repairs after the accident doesnt adjust with the one that wasnt damaged because it comes from a pre-ford :blackeye:

I take it that mine is a 94 1.5 GLXi that it has not had fords " Fix Or Repair Daily" grubby mits on it.

Mine's done 144K doesn't loose any oil or smoke. Still goes fine but there are a couple of car park dings on the sides and the prior owners must have been a tailgater as there is quite a bit of stone chipping on the front spoiler.

It's also meant to be green but is really dark, almost looks dark blue or even black in certain lights.

Can't copmplain for £580 quid :-) :-)

The Wife's getting a new motor and trying not to be too sexist a bloke would normally get the 1st car "depends who wears the trousers" :-) but I'm keeping the F.

"* Drive shafts - Pre Fords have stronger shafts, (thicker) you can only use G series shafts with a G series gear box, you can not use G series shafts on a F series gear box, tho the hubs on the pre and post 323f's are the same. "

Is anybody 100% sure about this?? as i have a 1995 323f v6 glx (Pre-Ford) and it needs new inner/outer cv joints and drive shafts , which i ordered of a 1998 323f v6 zxi from eBay breakers.

Will these fit !!!?????? ...

edit: mine has leatherette gear gaiter , and the door cards with the flap and push button on the boot and no rub strips on the doors, the one on ebay after looking at the pics, has the pyramid gear gaiter, has rub strips and doesnt have the flap on the door card. - doesnt look bright for me does it

i have the 1997 zxi.
i have the new type door cards, no big pocket, sad coz i quite like the ones with the big pockets.
i dont have dimming lights either. thats another bugger coz id like them too.
i have the black side strips, i prefer the lines this produces on the car.
i dont have push button boot lid.
i have the ugly rubber gaitor for gear shift. infact i remember when i got in it to test drive it, that was the first thing my jaw dropped at, coz its pretty ugly.
also the v6 is slightly different i beleive. i knwo from looking at my front cam cover compared to others, the older ones have a pipe comming out the front and along to the right side of the engine. mine doesnt.

is the v6 in the pre-ford models better than the later one?
how can i get dimming lights in the car?
are the seats in the zxi the best ones?
how do i geta cheap remote locking fob. the car has remote locking but i never got the fob. doh!

not sure about mine, it was first registered august 1995 lol.
i think im safe, its got the big pockets, not noticed the dimming lights yet to be honest, .. i have a light in my door lock tho???
has the plain, seats, and the removable security plate..
Push button boot, ( i want the one you can open from incar , only the fuel flap opens from inside..) and no rear spoiler which is good as i dont like the standard one anyway..

Although mine does leak oil !!!! but thats only a gasket :)

Oh and does anyone know if your break discs bolt onto the hub, or are they the floating disc type, i kinda noticed when i had my tyre off i could shake my disc lol, not a gd sign, so just wondering to put my mind at ease

Here's an interesting difference ... I somehow managed to leave my seatbelt dangling out of the door the other day, and my &#@%!@ dog decided it was a chew toy and chewed right through it.

After a couple of nervous days driving round with a knot on my seatbelt, I managed to get a new one from Mazda ... You're probably thinking that was silly, due to the expense. Well, it would have been, it I'd have bought the correct belt for the 1996 model for R1800.00. Luckily, Sydney the Mazda parts chappie suggested I try the 1997 model seatbelt, with a new stalk (the clasp is different) for R250.00 !!!

Anyway, the fittings/mountings are identical and the function is identical. The original stalk I removed has an electrical connection attached, but as it wasn't connected to anything, I don't think that will matter.

The most obvious difference is the quality of the finish and build - see the pic (Original on the left, cheap replacement on the right) ...

don't agree with this topic

pre or post they are all MAZDA and they are all made in japan how can you say pre ford is good but post ford not?
do ford came in a day and change everything in a moment?
for me there was a restyle and nothing more.

My car is 96's if ford was in at 95 how precisely can you tell if it is pre or post
Mine is just pre-restyling
It means I've the old badge and the curved interior but also doesn't have the push button boot release neither leather gaiter that you're saying are from the pre-model

Despite of being ford group or no I think there are somethings where they can't mess around

by looking at the parts

there are fundamental differences in parts (if you look at the epc you can see them)

i agree - there were a lot of crossover cars (made up of both pre and post ford parts) - and a lot of parts are the same pre and post ford

but - there are still differences and on the whole - pre ford has been better than post ford :thumbright:

sorry, i forgot to address this 95/96 is the crossover point - so your car is indeed a hybrid of the 2 as you say, old badge - new rear panel and gear gator
