Hi.
I've got a very annoying electrical fault with my '98 323F 1.5 GXi. Every time I press the brake pedal, the side lights come on, and therefore the dash lights up. I've just renewed the earth from the battery, and can only find one other obvious earth point which looks really hard to get to. Any ideas?! I'ts been going through bulbs like hell too. Argh! And it needs an MOT next month!
Cheers!
:D

Sounds like an earth fault on your back lighting circuit, clean and check all the connections on the rear lights where the bulbs are and on the plugs from the wiring loom, can't think what else it could be.

Seems simple enough. Cheers. Only problem I can see is that I have always had problems removing the light cluster. It seems to stay attached even after removing the two screws. I've tried to un-clip it in various ways but it just seems to be permanantly attached, which can't be right! the last thing I want to do is knacker the light cluster! D'oh!

We had to take the light clusters off to remove the bumper. It might also say in your handbook if you had one with your car (haven't checked mine though).

Are the brake and tail lights on the same bulb?

You could try removing a bulb at a time and trying the brakes to see if the side lights come on. (Take one out, try, put back in, try, take other one out, try).

Until it's fixed, drive round with your side lights on - your bulbs might last longer.
