ENGINE - Shortshifter - keep

TWM Performance ShortShifter received and installed last night!

45 mins, 2 peeps ( recommended ) and awesome - takes a little gettin use to but I reckon when I have........ quickshift city!

Feels and looks like it reduces throw between the gears upto if not bang on 50%.

Anyone ever had a wiggle of the box in a MX5???? Well thats the comparison in my eyes...... just wanna go out and play now!

Mate of mine had a little blast last nite and he hadn't driven it for a little while and not since RWB fitted and now shortshifter...... in his words ' it just feels like a big go kart.... it just turns in and goes where you point it "! :lol:

Couldn't get him out of it and ended up blasting round ( within limits of course ) some of our neighbouring villages - gr8 little roads for turning in and shifting....

Hi ... You are probably confused by the bit that says "Fits: - 1992 - 1994 Mazda 323". Don't worry - this is the shifter that I fitted to Edith, my 1996 323F BA and it fits a treat !!

By the way, I was getting a new stainless freeflow fitted yesterday, by Vanderlinde Systems - a South African family who have been winning practically every form of motorsport available in this country for the last 30--40 years, and Ettiene Vanderlinde, who runs the exhaust systems department, commented on the great quality of my TWM Shortshifter, and he's probably seen a few ...

I'd also recommend you seriously consider a TWM weighted gear knob. I bought one cheaply from somewhere else - it turned out to be one of those with three allan bolts that attach the knob to the gear stick. I soon got fed up with tightening it up twice a week, so I eventually bought a proper Mazda threaded chrome knob from MX5Parts ... Bottom line is - when you get a gearknob, make sure it's one with a Mazda gearstick thread on it ...

well received my short shifter and im in the process of installing it. cracking guide joe but i cant find a way to get the spring out of its place!! how did u guys do it?

I assume you mean the circlip - it's a bit of a bugger to get out. Ideally you need a good pair of circlip pliers, but simular results can be achieved with a pointy metal thingy, a couple of screw-drivers, and a bumper sized pack of elastoplast

yup it can be a right git to get out and in ... make sure you buy some decent sirclip pliers though... not cheap ones or you will be off back to the shop for another set

Whats the "throw" i was wondering why the section on the bottom was longer than standard, doesnt it just push the link arm closer to the ground tho?

I am putting her back in today so ill let you know how it feels

What it does is move the pivot point of the shifter, so tes you are right, but it reduces the movement as meaasured from the top of the stick, in the case of our cars, by nearly 50%.

I measure the distance of the top of the stick between 1st and second gear, 15cm standard, just over 8cm with the short shifter
