Hello everyone, I hope you all doing well,

Recently I noticed that the brake fluid's level has gone quite down close to the minimum but above it. I got the car to the mechanic and he spotted some leak on the clutch pedal area so he advised to replace the "clutch pump" as he called it. I think he meant the clutch master cylinder (probably they call them pumps here) and I asked him if he means the upper or lower one and he said the upper one, so gotta be the master. Anyways, he charged 90 euros for the part + labor. I checked the car now, clutch feels a little bit smoother I think and I see he topped up the brake fluid, but I'm not sure if he changed the part.

Here is a link of some photos I took from the brake fluid tank and the part underneath it. The part under the brake fluid seems untouched, is this what was supposed to be replaced?? The only new part could be the more black part that is visible in the other pictures below (the blue thing on the left is the battery for reference). Is this the part he was meant to change?

Here is the link: https://imgur.com/a/8zOmYoo

Thanks!

Hello
I'm finding it hard to see what's going on from the pictures. This is a left-hand drive car, yes? It's a different layout to our UK cars.
But if there was a leak then replacing a pipe (i.e. the leaking one) is a viable solution.
90 Euros isn't a lot, in UK terms that's an hour's labour, and the part may not be a lot, so it's not necessarily a scam if it's been fixed.
Replacing the whole master cylinder would be a much more expensive job.
:?

Hi, yes he claims he did replace the whole master cylinder, the pictures u see are after the job done. Yea the car is left hand drive. He said the part costed 90 euros + 50 euros of labor but can u spot anything changed from the pictures? The part under the brake/clutch fluid reservoir is obviously untouched. If something is changed then must be the black part bit down and deeper in the rest of the pictures (scroll down to see them all). Is this the clutch master cylinder?

Thanks!

Hello buddy :) The first photos you've taken is the brake master cylinder, not the clutch master cylinder, which is the shiny new looking part in your 3rd and 4th photos :thumbleft:

There should be a hose running from the reservoir on top of the brake master cylinder, down to that clutch master cylinder :thumbleft:

Thanks mate, I wasn't sure about that. As for the price, what's ur opinion? Some quick browsing showed that this part costs around 15-30 euros, which quite far off 90.

In your post you say "90 euros for the part + labour" - does that mean 90 euros was your total cost? Or is that 90 euros for the part, plus extra for labour?

If you paid 90 euros for just the part, then I'd say that's not far off - I just had a quick look, and a clutch master cylinder is £68.99 from EuroCarParts, which is roughly 75 euros at the minute.

If you paid 90 for the part and labour, all in, I'd say you got a bargain!

90 for the part + 50 for labor. Ah alright, then it sounds decent.
