just had the MOT and got an advisory for:-

'Nearside Front Macpherson strut has slight movementin the upper support bearing assembly'

i was quoted as only one supplier in the uk who supplies the bearing and would cost in the region of £140......ouch

for that price i would rather change the full lot and be done with it, is this the part i am looking for?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KYB-Front-Lef ... 742wt_1199

any advice hugely appreciated

Paul

Looking at the Compatibility table. This is for a BJ. You have posted in BA so I'm guessing that's what you have. This part won't fit a BA

As long as you've got spring compressors it's an easy job :thumbleft:

Crack off top nut, jack up corner, remove wheel, unbolt bottom, unbolt top, compress springs, undo top nut, remove top mount, fit new top mount, do up top nut, uncompress springs, re-fit to car :) about an hour or so to do I reckon :)

Ive got two front ones that (might) be up for grabs in good condition (depending on Lexi's) A little bit of surface rust but solid. Nothing a wire brush and a coat of hammerite wont sort out.
Question is do I want to sell them mmmmm...

Hey guys i know this is gonna be a bit off topic but anyways, Ive had both rear strut mounts replaced by a garage USING genuine Mazda parts, Because these mounts are a safety part dont buy off internet sites (irregardless of if its Ebay, FPS, Amazon or any other site) no offence meant to FPS by the way, Buy them from Mazda as they are easy enough to get and will be with you in 2 days flat. Its a safety item and you cant put a price on safety really.

don't mean to hi-jack this thread but it seems pointless to create a new one,

I've been told that I need to replace the bearing in the top strut mount for my BA, is this the correct bearing?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111345482054? ... 1423.l2649

I see that it mentions BA on the add but just want to be sure

Yep that's the one you need :thumbleft: but generally if the bearing is knackered, the whole strut top mount isn't far behind!

If you still have a bearing fitted, you should get away with just cleaning it up and some new grease :thumbleft:

That's excellent news that is Hughie. I was going to ask if the current one fitted could be re-greased. I have some spray on copper grease, would this do the job?

They can provided they're not broken :thumbleft:

Copper grease would probably work for a little while but I recommend some proper grease! Copper is more for preventing bolts from seizing and such - CV grease or multipurpose grease would be better!
