Does a split rubber on a shock absorber mean it an not failure?

Sorry, this is an old thread but it's just what I need! :) The NSF dust cover/gaiter on my BA shock is in pieces: I had a close look at it today, and it's disintegrating. I've been getting MOT advisories on it, no fail so far, but I guess it will need replacing eventually.

But where do I get one from? Can't find any for sale individually. If I replaced the shocks (which are the originals from new!), would they come with new gaiters?

Thanks!

don't think you'd get the gaiters, but I could be wrong...

I've never had an advisory for the gaiters being worn, and half my cars haven't even had them  (that's me ripping them off, not them not coming with the car!)

I'm not sure where you'd get them from, and I'm with Marc - I doubt you'd get them with a new shock.

He says, though he has just found these on ebay :evil4:

Bonanza! Nice find :D

I went back & re-read the MOT reports properly  actually it wasn't that that I got an advisory on, it was a split in the CV boot.

That makes sense  they never care about strut bellows

Get the CV boot sorted sooner rather than later - all the grease will fly out which will not only dirty your wheel/brakes etc, but will also ruin the joint, then you'll need a new CV joint!

Cheers, I'll get that done ASAP :)

Apparently it's split but not letting in dirt (so it wasn't a fail), but yes, best not let it get worse if dire consequences follow.
