So it seems that this is a common problem with these cars. That nasty rattle when you shut the car door making the car sound like a transit van. You may also have the problem of the window not sealing against the rubber or the window glass might be excessively loose. Well today i went to tackle this problem as i was sick of the hand car wash power washer squirting through the gap in the window and blasting me in the side of the face :(

Tools needed.

Socket set with 10mm socket
Torx bit set
Posidrive screwdriver to remove the door card.

It's really simple taking the glass out. First remove the door card, then wind the window down to about this level

This is the area where you need to undo 3x10mm nuts.

Closer look

You only need to slacken 2 of the nuts off as they sit inside the window regulator. The last remaining nut needs to be removed completely. It will all make sense when you are doing it.

Once those are done, remove the 2 stop brackets at the very top of the door, one at each end. They stop the window coming all the way out the door and are adjustable. They are held in with a single 10mm bolt. The glass is ready to come out now. Just pull it upwards and manipulate it out the door.

The common problem is this nut/Torx bolt coming so loose that it falls off completely.

This is the nut/Torx bolt set

And fitted to the window

It's good practice to tighten all the nuts up. I just used a 10mm socket and Torx bit. The disc didn't slip as i tightened it.

Put some grease in the runner, then refit the window as you removed it. Obviously it's harder to fit the window, than remove it, so be patient and it will go in. Tighten the 3 nuts, then refit the stop brackets and adjust as necessary. You don't want them adjusted too high as the window will catch the trim on the roof of the car. Trial and error comes into play here, I'm sure anyone can figure it out.

I have this exact same problem. One of mine fell out completely and I fought with it for ages to try and get it back on without removing the window. I eventually gave up.

I removed a window form one of my breakers and it was such a pain in the ass that I don't fancy doing it to my car because I doubt I'd get it back in.

Next time I've got the door card off I'll have another look.

Yeah, like i said. It quite a bit more difficult fitting the window than removing it, but it can be done because i've done it. It only took me 1 minute to fit it too, and it's the hardest part of the whole job.

If any of you are still having problems fitting the glass back in, you could try removing the triangular part that the mirror is fixed to. It *might* make it a bit easier, but i didn't find the need to take it off.

Excellent guide, done it today, anyone with a loud, rattleing, sticks out of door seal window, use this guide, takes 30 mins max!

Found the clip in the bottom of the door, really easy job, hated the though of removing window as I have the tendancy to break things!

Thanks to poster!

Great guide thank you!
Fixed my window using this today, the rattle has gone but best of all it now seals properly and doesn't catch the top of the frame every time I close the door either perfect! Shuts with a very satisfactory thunk now, no wind noise either at speed which was most annoying. Greased up the runners while I was at it too.
The window is not too bad to get back in at all, worked easiest for me to jostle in the end nearest the front (rubber triangle bit) first then you just feed the bits that catch working your way back towards the other end before lining up the guide wheel.
Put a bit of threadlock on the fittings while I was at it, may save me from doing this again in a few months after it vibrates loose again.

This is an excellent guide!

I've done it the hard way for the ones I could reach, but this is another build error from Mazda.

As the window slides throught the runners, when they get dirty they tend to stick, and after X amount of
times, it will start to turn that disc and well my search started when I heared. KLING in the door. And then
when I started to accelerate I heared something roll, like a coin. Then I had to brake, and heared it again
rolling the other way.

That started my search, but allot of people are totally clueless about this, so nomination for STICKY from me.

That's mental, they could have just reached in the box and given you the bolt but instead gave you the whole thing LOL.

lol yeah they said they didn't have the part. good thing i got the entire window because saturday-morning a neightbour was at my door saying my window got smashed. ran outside, however I mounted my new window under tension so it shattered overnight :(
pulled it out, saw that the runners in which the window sits were off (one of the runners got pushed to the side by some stupid bolt). luckily I had a 2nd window :D

so if you are pulling your window out for this, please make sure that both runners are in place and that the window is entirely tension-free!

One can do it the hard way... But it will not put the bolts on properly.. but can turn them tighter.

Take a pic and post it up, plenty of free image hosting sites around. You might be onto something new and i'd like to know what it is ('',)

Great post by the way, I'll be doing this while fixing my calipers.

One question - where can you get replacement screw for the cover that fits around the lock? Mines has decided it wants to file itself blunt and I'm having difficulty removing it. Once removed I want to replace it but not sure where to get one due to its size ans shape.

Anyone done this before? any tips on how to remove a blunt screw head?

Thanks

It's just a self tapper screw. Small old screwdriver, get a purchase on what's left of the head and whack it with a hammer in the undo direction. Should start to turn.

Where could I get a replacement from? B&Q, Halfords, Homebase??

I could do what you say but don't wanna risk breaking the cover; due to its location, but will try when I can.

Thanks

Anyone have any ideas?? The drivers side front window makes this kinda squeeking noise.

It sounds like its coming from the rubber triangle in the corner??

It gets alot worse when the windows open too :/

Gonna try using this guide to fix my rattly passenger window next dry day!!

EDIT: Used some Silicone grease on the rubber triangle and the squeak has been vastly improved!!

Hope this helps someone :D

I just did my drivers side window and thanks for the guide which proved to be very helpful. If I could possibly add a few findings:

1: Re tighten (by hand only) the two window regulator screws before removing the window and again before installing. I found that initially they were catching during the window removal/install in a loose state as they were protruding that little bit and catching on just abut everything. Winding them back in by hand seemed to make all the difference. Once the window is back inside the frame, you can then loosen them again so they slot back into place.

2: Disconnect the power window winder control mechanism (power windows only) after the door card has been removed. It's pretty straightforward with two screws. You can then re connect the mechanism and wind the windows without the door card which you will need to do to gain access to the screws and especially when adjusting the window stoppers once the window is back in and mounted.

3: Getting the window back in was actually not that difficult although I was preparing myself for it to be. Once I figured out that the regulator screws where part of the problem I also made sure I installed it from an over head position where I had a good view and was able to see that putting the window in on an angle with the corner section going in first made it not too difficult. Once in I then loosened off the two screws again and then it did take a bit of maneuvering to line up with the mounting holes but at that stage you are definitely on the home turn.

4: Door screen could not (or rather I chose not to ) come off completely as it would have meant either cutting it or disconnecting some of the door mechanisms which I was unwilling to chance. Instead I peeled back only what was necessary to gain access to the screws and left it hanging which might be OK in colder weather but it happened to be a warm Sydney day. Long story short I got that black tar like sealant on everything I touched and had to clean it off. In hindsight instead of letting the screen hang I could have used the sealant to tack it over to the side and out of harms way.
