two things i miss from my old car is the flicky map light thing and the stereo stalk
after hours of browsin, i still havent found a definitive answer but have found a couple of solutions.
the previous owner had installed a jvc cd head unit and nice as it is, it doesnt have the option for steering wheel controls.
i read that someone was asking about fitting a bj wheel to the ba, but nobody had replied to say that the controls had worked :?
the sony remote stalk( RMX4S) looks good and is probably the route i will take as long as i buy a sony hu to go with it.
saw a few cheap infrared things that attach to the wheel but i dont like the look of them. and then i saw this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jrjYhS_mgg

so my question is, could i just go down the scrappys and pick a stalk that suits and
fit it to my ba? :) or does anyone know of this being done already?
cheers, frank.

I've got the Sony stalk, well, had one on my other car, not fitted to the new one yet. But it is definitely the easiest / best option in my opinion, and I spent a *long* time looking for ways of doing it.

The BJ wheel can be fitted to the BA, but getting the steering wheel controls to work wouldn't be easy, there are some electronics that will interface it to a head unit, but I can't remember the name of them, nor was I able to find them available in the UK. Add to that, without getting my hands on a BJ wheel, I can't even be sure they would work with it. This is the same for any factory fit steering wheel controls/stalks, none of them will just plug in to the back of the head unit :(

thanks for the reply sloth, but im a thrifty bugger so will hold out a while yet before going the sony route.
still on the subject of stalks (fnar fnar :p), i Have gotten used to it, but i still prefer the indicators on the left.
is it a simple case of swapping the stalk assembly for a lhd one?

sorry, i know thats a rhd, but i cant attach pics and that was the best pic i could find.

Hmmm I don't think its possible to just swap them over, not seen a LHD BA's stalks so I'm not sure if the lefty ones have them reversed or what :dontknow:

Personally I love them being on the right, much more logical in my opinion :)

I have the BJ sport wheel fitted to our V6, I'm currently looking for a BJ sport breaker and some time to remove the clockspring and wiring upto the headunit then I am going to wire up my steering wheel controls :)

Sounds easy but will probably not be so easy

Anything can be done if you have the time and patients :)

Stu

ok stu, after you sir :D
took me a while to find lhd pics on members cars but got there in the end, and indeed, they do have the indicators on the left.
i just know FA about cars but it does look like a straight swap to me. just drove my old peugeot again after a month and was fumbling with the indicators and wipers
so its true, you do get used to the change fairly quick ;)

p.s. bottom right it says, You CAN post attachments in this forum.
but i dont know how? :?
