When I've got some cash one day I want another one, but a fast one.

I understand the V6's are pretty shit for what you get.

I hear the acronyms KLZE or GTR seem to sound the baddest. What are the differences?

I know a KLZE is an imported, tuned NA lump you can swap out with a V6. And the GTR is a turbo.

Is the GTR a variant of the BA, or is it one of those from another car that you swap out.

What's the most powerful, and are they almost equally as hard/easy to swap out?

What kind of "0-60" times do these conversions get?

And what would the average cost be to get a second hand V6, and then source the parts and do the conversion?

and if you want to buy my 18" alloys, what will you offer? in the for sale section, heh :)

A Lantis Type-R is the most powerful if you go by BHP but it's only slightly more powerful than a UK V6. Lantis Type-Rs are Jap imports.

The GTR engine can be dropped into a 1.8 BA but it's not an engine that the BA (or any 323f) was ever built with. I think it was available in a 323 (non fastback version!)

I was looking at conversions only really

So yeah, the engine from a GTR turbo, or a KLZE are the comparisons I'm trying to make. Type R probably isn't much cop either that's why I was thinking conversions

GTR's have good potential :D
but the ultimate would a V6 turbo! but that would be expensive and difficult, mostly custom parts!!
Unfortunately none of the engine swaps are "easy" :( anything is do-able though! :D

you want a pre ford 1.8 for the gearbox, engine mounts and drive shafts - but should invest in a brake upgrade

Easiest conversion (in my opinion) is the KLZE into V6 BA,

KLZE is 200hp standard but that is if you use the ZE ECU and intake which not everone does which drops the power back down. Where the GTR conversion once installed is a lot easier to tune as 323frock has shown. As for turbo'ing a v6 there is a guy on the mx3 website that has a KLZE in a mx3 which he has supercharged. He then got bored of that and made custom throttle bodies for it. He then got bored of that and last I heard had turbo'd it. So it can be done but you have to make everything and do everything yourself. Dont expect off the shelf parts

if you havent got the experience or qualifications in that far of mechanics its not something that is easily done (dont mean to sound rude)

it depends on what the 323f had to start..
either a v6 kl or a 1.8 bp if turboing a klde is better than a ze and ive seen stock pistions machined down to lower compression in the states too...(low boost unless you can afford new je pistons and rods..

with regards to the bpt (the gtr or gtx)
you wont be able to get your hands on a real gtr (they had a few tweaks in the exhaust valves n turbo to make them better)
but going from a gtx your best bet is to jump on www.323gtx.com or .co.uk i cant remember..
anything is possible upto 400bhp if you have the right ecu(standalone) tuning, setup and turbo, injectors, exhaust, intake, and other bits and bobs...

the big question is was it worth the money?
you can get an audi a3 to 400bhp for less than £1500 a 323f... will be considerably higher...

One question, does anyone know how to use a search button any more? Pretty much all of these questions have been answered a thousand times if you're not too lazy to look.

If you can't be arsed to do the proper research then I wouldn't even try to start on an engine conversion!

oh dear, was that an indirect digg at me for posting?

I wouldn't be doing the conversion myself, well not mainly. But for the record I'm a technician so am handy with electrics, electronics and mediocre at mechanics. Engines are simpler than electronics, I just don't have as much experience or a good location to do it. Some people on forums love telling people they couldn't 'do it themselves' because they're asking. I mean really what does not being bothered to use the search have to do with technical competence? I could come up with some really clever boolean searches if I really wanted to, but I like a chat.

I did use the search but couldn't quickly find the information I wanted on those exact comparisons. So I thought someone may be able to summarise it for me. Plus people love putting their knowledge up on forums. It's that little boost that keeps forums ticking.

Enough self justification, I wouldn't do it now I don't have the car or the money yet. I just want to know, and I think a well tuned N/A KLZE would be favoured. As I don't find turbo's as instant and fun.

No worries bud, there have just been a host of power/engine swap/turbo/v6 post recently and there is already a lot of information on the forums.

I'm going to try and do a sticky to collate all the information to make it easy to find as soon as I get chance.

I've probably just been here so long I've heard the same questions 10000 times. ;) At least you didn't ask what the rattling is under the car/what the tapping sound is from the engine/or one of the many other questions that used to get asked constantly. :D

fair enough no problem mate. yeah I don't come on here much and knew someone would be happy to tell. happy post consolidating!

If i'd seen a sticky saying most powerful BA options I'd had gone with that. I expect it would answer an umbrella of those questions. It has to be admitted that not many cars have the same style and drive of a BA, they just don't come with a power plant to match it.

Basically if I had the money I'd still have a BA over almost any car as they are so nice. Only thing I think would change my mind would be an NSX-R. But i'm not rich yet

Well if you look in the technical BA section I just put a thread up called v6 and it shows you the K series v6 in various states of tune which proves if you want to do something you can with time and effort and most the time money lol

Exactly my thought...

Also...

Turbo'ing a V6 is not a good idea, as it's not made for turbo charging. Simple...

When you got 6k money left, find a GTR, buy tonnes of extra parts, and then you can go 350BHP...

Which is totally useless on the road, and only usefull for track use.

(which I'm building... also with a GTX engine, it's going to be modded to GTR standard)

What the difference is you can find in this forum section...

edit

Don't ask about things you cannot afford, sorry about that, but if you cannot even afford the car itself...

I'd just go do something else instead of find out what the most powerful engine is....

As I mentioned I bought my car 4 years ago for 2500 euro... overal with the engine and stuff like coilovers
and allsorts of turbo related parts and shite for the engine, and the engine itself Ill be well over 8k... euro...

SO with car it will be over 10k! ;)

ugh

"Turbo'ing a V6 is not a good idea, as it's not made for turbo charging. Simple..."

^ That was not something I was talking about in the first place

"When you got 6k money left, find a GTR, buy tonnes of extra parts, and then you can go 350BHP..."

^ That's kind of what I wanted to know

"Don't ask about things you cannot afford"

^ I'm sorry but that's just crap. It's completely ridiculous. Are you saying you've been able to afford everything you've ever considered doing in life, at that very moment? You can't research mortgages until you can afford the house! Really, with that approach you're going trip over every time you CAN afford to do something as you'll know nothing about it. If I have a question, then I'll ask it mate.

"I'd just go do something else instead of find out what the most powerful engine is...."

^ Haha. Okay that's fine, I wouldn't. I'm pretty busy doing my campervan up at the moment but I still have questions about the mazda okay.

I was going to do an SSGTI before I found the F

that's a 1.3 with 320+ BHP!

But the F is so nice I'll settle for less speed

I suppose it would be fun over time to build a project that will cost a fortune or if ur good with money save for something mega

I had a 200sx 2.0 turbo RWD got it for 800 as i needed work, a grand later it was ready for 300-350 bhp with equal torque

for 6k what u will spend about on this project u can get 1 around 400bhp and there wicked fun
