One of my head lamp bulbs died the other night, so i was thinking that some off the HID/Xenon bulbs would look preety good, there by hangs the problem,

What bulbs do the main and full beam headlights take?

One website says H3, while another says they're both H4. i spoke to 2 Mazda dealers, one said i'd have to change my whole light assembly and they wouldn't fit while the other said it was an H3 bulb.

Does anyone know the true answer?

Hi Adam.

Loads of us have done this and it sounds to me that your being run round the block - what's the big problem.... all you wanna do is upgrade your bulbs, so here's the definitive guide:

Main - H1
Dipped - H3
Side lights - 501 Capless ( wedge )

additional info - H3 55W. Do not go higher than 55W.

i found tha my piaa bulbs in the norm beam kept blowin so ended up buyin a cheaper piaa set as they kept over heatin. Norm last about 3 months at a cost of 65 pounds

Yeah, Had the same problem with PIAA bulbs; mine only lasted about 5 months max! ...shame cos they were BRILLIANT (no pun intended! ) and I would love to carry on using them but I just can't afford it........

You can get some bulbs that are 55W but have a higher output (about 85W) ...just make sure that they are 'E' marked so the cops don't hassle you!

I've got green headlight bulbs. They look pretty cool on my green car (apparantly. I never get to see them obviously). But i bought them as 55W but i think they may be 85W. You can also get purple, blue and yellow. You can also get some really cool 24 karat gold plated ones which improve brightness (yeh right!).
