Fronts = 5"*7"
Rears = 6" or 6.5"

Post what you have and what you think of them.

Please no chatting in this topic!!!

Fronts: JBL 5*7 GTO speakers.
Rear: JBL 6" GTO speakers.

Both are really good even when turned up to max (off the head unit), however when turned up loud they do not handle bass as well as some. As I have a sub and I have no need for the speakers to play bass notes so I fitted base blockers, which also help improve sound qaulity :)

I still have the original Mazda issue small magnet dual cone jobbies front and back (1996 vintage !). They are surprisingly good for what they are, as long as you don't go past half volume on my 35w X 4 Alpine R/T & Shuttle, which is still pretty load and clear.

I currently have standard speakers but my pioneer headunit and laptop sound enhancements make them sound great! Still amazes me for standard speakers.

One has gone bust though so I plan on replacing them with Audiobahn ABF's

I have -

Front - Blaupunkt TSx573 - Blue ones
rear - Standard - but will be getting Blaupunkt TSx162

The sound is pretty good, have good mid range and good bass - loud and clear :D

Bass also comes from Infinity Basslink X in the boot - would reccomend for space saving and good bass

i'm running alpine s-types front and rear. came with all the right adapters (only needed them on the back), sound ace. models are SPS570A (5x7's) in the front and SPS170A (6.5"/17cm) in the back.

I am running 5 by 7 infinity reference in the front and 16cm infinity reference in the back with infinity reference 6 by 9's on the shelf amped.
To give a rumble from the boot there's a 12" I think infinity perfect range sub.

Sounds loud and very clear as do most infinity speakers, they have good tweeters, reasonably priced aswell.

check out http://www.autoleads.co.uk/speaker_kits.html says they sell at halfords etc.

it sounds like your running the speakers off the head unit - is this right?

in my experience, standard car speakers on a seperate amp sound better / distort less than if you were to buy better speakers using the head unit power, if you get what I mean! (ie spend your money first on amping the standing speakers rather than replacing them).

in the ideal world you'd have both, but it's down to money and scraped knuckles when wiring

I had 350w(p.M.P.O) 6x9 JBL in my rear parcel tray and found the bass to be not to bad.I ended up exchanging these for a set of 400w 7X10 kenwood speakers. These complimented a 12" sealed pioneer sub. This made for awesome low range solid bass. The only problem is the pinging or vibration from the outer boot.Sound deadening soon fixed this.I soon followed with 6.5" kenwood components in the front. This gave me great mid range and tweeter response. All I had to do is rip out the old cardboard style cone factory speakers up front and do a bit of simple re-wiring.Sound deading in the front doors was a definite as the vibrations were pretty bad.All up it was worth it as it cranks loud with no distortions and the hairs on your neck stand up.All this was powered by a pioneer 35w x 4 headunit and 1 alpine v12 4 way amp and 1 kenwood 2 way amp with built in cross-overs for the front components.

i found the perfect fit front 6*9's - JBL GTO936e.
it comes with a plastic spacer ring selotaped to the front of the speaker, just remove this ring and fit it behind the speaker.
works a treat, although i would advise some kind of water protection, these pesky doors leak!!!

I`ve still got the standard speakers plus 400w 6x9 JBL`s on the parcel shelf along with a 4 way jenson amp. In the process of custom building my bass tube for the boot, Just needs carpeting round it. Then i`m wired for sound.

Here#s a genuine question on Speaker sizes...............

I have just had mine out to measure for a backing plate, the fronts are supposed to be 5" x 7"...........but how do you measure them......?

As in, the size of the actual cone or the size of the speaker housing.......? either way they aint 5x7........... :dontknow:

@Vinze. . . you can get adapters for 5x7's that change the size to 6.5"s ive just finsihed fitting mine and they sound sweet.(also it gives you much more choice on speakers with6.5's)

£5 for the adapters at the place next to me, let me know if you want some

Can anyone post the original speakers size and measurements.
I would like to install round custom speakers (6.5", 7"?) and don't know what is the maximum size that can fit (especially in the front door).
Thanks

I have a pair of 6x9 JBLs, that can go in the front doors of my first car, and if they dont fit they will be put into a stealth shelf in the boot. I also have a custom active enclosure, that started as an FLI Trap 12 Active Enclosure, which now has the same amp, new enclosure, ported box with an Infinity Reference 12 hopefully to be bought next week :D

I am a car audio nut and want to do db drags when im older ;)

What's the * for in 5"*7"? is it meant to be x?

And how come there are two sizes at the rear? Forgive me for I am an audio noob.

yep, 5x7

They are 2 sizes as basically they both fit the hole, Ive got alpine 6.5 components in my rear doors, £39.99 from Halfrauds and I got th 5x7's of ebay here from this guy, they were a direct swap from the OEM ones and sound great, no drilling or anything required:

these came the next day by courier and are £29.99 well spent

Is there a noticeable sound difference?

Hey, so, are the 6x9" speakers just tricky to mount in front of BA, or do you have to cut/modify something irreversible?
