I was doing some wiring today and got everything I needed as far as the boot but when I went to hook up the remote lead and RCA leads to the head unit I ran into a bit of a problem. I think I know what it is but want to be sure before I start blowing fuses or something. The head unit is a Sony CDX-GT500 and has a pair of female RCA connections on a separate lead off the back of the unit. When I took off the covers and went to hook up the RCA leads my leads were marked one red and one black but the connections on the headunit were both black. The wiring diagram says they are for a mono connection so I'm thinking that the red and black thing is for a stereo signal. So my question is is it ok to just hook up the RCA leads one black to black and one red to black and they'll both just get the same signal or has the red black thing got to do with polarity in which case I'll blow something hooking it up red to black?

that model should have two pre outs (two white and two red) and a sub output (two black)

this may help?

It has two pre outs and the sub output, but I want to use the sub output as it has a separate control for the sub output in the menu. What I need to know is can I plug the red RCA lead into the black sub output without doing any damage?

if you are only using one sub then i would say that is ok, but not to sure with two. the out put will not damage the amp or subs, all that will happen is it will either over heat and blow the fuse or use to much power and blow the fuse, try it on low volume and make sure you have a few 15amp fuses handy just in case but the analogue jbl amps are far more robust than the later digital ones

Cool, I'll be taking it very easy with them anyway. Cheers for the info :thumbright: Going to get everything in and running tomorrow and let you know how it goes.

All hooked up and working a charm. Even started off with a 10A fuse while setting the gain levels to make sure I didn't damage anything. Will get pics up soon. Thanks for the help :thumbright:

Here's the prototype enclosure. This was just to make sure I could fit everything in the way I wanted. I'm going to port it next to see if it improves it. I have one or two other tweeks to do then I'll make the proper box from 25mm MDF and cover it with acoustic carpet :)

Yep, I braced the box on the inside and mounted the amp on rubber washer too so hopefully there won't be any issues with vibrations. Thanks again for everything mate :thumbright:
