because i noticed i have a security light next to the rev counter, and a transponder ring thingy by the ignition barrell. Also...

Do all BA's come with remote central locking?
Does a warning light come on when a door is open?

I do believe that the UK ones did have a chip in the key.

All BA's should have come with remote central locking but some have either had the standard cobra alarm ripped out or like in my case the wires snipped. (I just put another alarm in)

A warning light does not come on when the door is open as the sensor is not there. HOWEVER, the early mazda BA's did have this feature. I think andym323 has it in his car. Not sure if it was standard or he made it aftermarketly.

Hope the above helps and anyone please do correct me if I am wrong.

Mine has the door alarm if you leave the key in the ignition, but i guess that could be irrelevant :dontknow:

My 95 Ba did not have any immobiliser or chip key, but had a Cobra alarm fitted with remote C/L
My 98 does have a chip key and the remnants of an alarm under the bonnet that had been disconnected

Ohh, will you divulge as to how this was done as I have the bulb in the dash cluster but would love to know how to make it operational.

my pre ford had an immobiliser as standard, so therefore had a transponder built into the key. ;)

It didn't have remote for the central locking though...

due to the routing of the wires and location of "that bulb" i'd say try and take a tap near the A pillar trim.....
you could also take it from the front loom - but what's the point when the A trim is basically next to the dials

Oh ok, so it's just a case of running a wire from the red/white wire behind the A pillar to the + side of the bulb in the instrument cluster?.

I really hope my key doesn't have a chip inside it, how am i supposed to get a spare key cut? I guess i could take the chip out and tape it to the transponder, but thats a bit pikey'ish, oh and i ripped out an alarm, not sure if it was a cobra.

Dude, yours being a 1997 BA, I'd guess yours has the transponder chip in the key and an engine immobiliser as standard.

You'd have to get the key cut and then programmed. I believe Mazda charge £60-odd quid to program a key, but some local locksmiths maybe able to do it cheaper for you. You'll have to have a shop around
