1. Lack of available good engines, and parts.
2. Cost.
3. Non compatability of BJ and BG electrics.
4. 15 year old engine in a 4 or 5 year old car? :dontknow:
5. Gearbox/driveshafts/hubs/mounts/ECU/etc,etc......

Thats 5 good reasons for ya.

I thought the TSI was a crap kit?
That kit also doesn't come with a standalone unit, you'll have to add that to the price.

yeah true but at £1200 cheaper than the hiboost kit it does seem like a viable option
or perhaps http://www.prostreetonline.com/pnsku/mp2001x.asp

you can also get the hiboost 1.6 with a smaller turbo. Not the top-end IHI.
Thought it was like 3700 usd instead of 4500 usd then.

still alot of money though but I think well spent.

Could you not just go to a specialis and get them to create a turbo kit for you. Surely that'd be cheaper.

I looked at a specialist and was quoted around 2500...but again that wouldnt have included a standalone engine management or any forged pistons/rods

Lets face it....to get a good, reliable boosted set up on the BJ sport you are going to have to be prepared to lay down around 5000 and still run with the risk of severe engine damage!

It would almost be best to try and import an complete us-spec mazdaspeed engine and tune that!

from what i read the 1.6 is alot stronger than the FS engine so more that capable of taking boost whilest still being reliable, well thats what i read

in my opinion, the FS is a very primitive engine, first seen in the 626 in 1992-ish.
Its basically been upgraded through that time from 115 bhp to the current (crap) 131bhp.
in my opinion, theres a good reason why Mazda didn't want to take the power up too much. May have mean't upgrading the internals, which of course would have cost more.
They needed a 2.0 litre for the FL Sport, but didn't have the inclination to design another engine, probably coz they knew the Mazda 3 was in the pipeline soon anyway. So they just threw the old FS in there. Good engine, but dated. The V6 would have been better, with the option of a 2.0 or a 2.5 litre.

If I was looking for turbo power, I'd be looking for a whole unit. Engine, turbo, the lot, all matched and proven to work reliably. I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of a bolt on Turbo kit. And I certainly don't think its worth £5000.

I wonder what it is like after you put at least 5k in the engine, its faster, more consuming and then ?
That means you received something(faster) but have to give something back(consumption).
And we all love to drive but hate to look at the digits flying at the gasstation.

Its about time somebody came with a fuel consuming solution so we can enjoy our cars longer
and spare the oil that keeps rising in price.

This means we all have to put hydrogen engines in our cars and it just happened to be that
there is an rx-8 on hydrogen. The Mazda H2RE Rx-8. It also runs on gas by the way.
who's in lol. Only a problem with filling her up with hydrogen :evil4:

sure the engine is primitive, but it turns out to be pretty strong when the correct tuning is used... my friends here in dallas have put 20psi on these engines (our US versions have 9.1 compression compared to your 9.7) with no problems... both of them broke due to stupid reasons... one was cracked piston ring land because of a bad wastegate actuator causing the engine to go full boost (it pegged the gauge), and the other was running out of oil because the lad was too lazy to check it... other than that, they both held together for a long time... what really kept these engines together was a knock control unit... the J&S safeguard!

This seems to be the issue. Nothing wrong with the engine in my opinion, all Mazda engines are good no matter how old, but a lot of people think a Turbo is a simple "bolt on and go" mod. Not enough owners appreciate that they need correct and exact tuning, coupled with a bit of common sense. :thumbleft:

Is this the 2ltr engine? I would have thought she would go to 140 before hitting 6500RPM.............

Ive had 130+ on a private run in my 1.8 with RPM's to spare

Are the US BJ's geared differently  :dontknow:

it *can* do 145 easily, but there is a speed limiter in the ECU that mazda put in the turbo cars
there is no speed limiter in the non-turbo because it doesn't even have enough power to get past 125

.015 off each wall, thats funny...

I dont think .030 is a problem, the splayed mains would take it OK, Id say go with head studs for better clamping and get a cam made for blower engines wider LSA, keeps the cylinder pressure down.

and why would that be???

My speedo is within 1mph at...er...high speeds - according to the sat nav unit...

Not all cars have inaccurate speedos
