Hello!

I remember seeing the club at JAE (I miss that show)

I was close to buying a BA model earlier this year for a daily driver but it had sold pretty quick. I ended up settling for a Honda Accord which has been a money pit. I've now found another BA that I like so I'm now doing a little bit of research on the model.

I'm no stranger when it comes to japanese cars having owned 3x MX5s, 3x Micra K11,Colt CZT, MX5 NC and my current weekend toy an R34 GTT.

Chris

Hello
Great to have you in the Forum.
I've had 2 BAs, and there are many members on here also who can help you with any information you'd like.
Happy hunting!
:)

And welcome from me too! You'll be well at home if you've had MX-5s, maybe a bit surprised how much room you'll have in a BA
Maybe you're eyeing up one of the silver ones on eBay - the Mystique is especially rare and worth looking after. Then again, "Mystique" is just a badge on a standard BA

If you want a real thrill, bag that lovely green V6 - it's going to be real treat for whoever buys that

But I've happily driven 1.5's for a few years now and they're great. If you can check for rust have good poke around, and if they let you take a look at the top of the rear spring-hangars check they are sound - its bye-bye-BA if they go!

I've messaged the owner of the green V6 in Blackpool, asking for photos of the underside. He said he can probably get it on a ramp but he doesnt know when. I'm over 5 hours away so its a long drive to find out its rotten. One MOT advisory was rear inner sill but that hadnt been repaired.

I'm in talks with the silver V6 on Facebook marketplace on the 3 spokes. Its got some minor issues that need sorting before it can be MOT'd. He's waiting to move it and will let me know when I can view it, luckily thats just over 1hr from me.

I've called the car dealership that has the green 1.5 with 22k miles on Autotrader. An older gentleman answered, bluntly told me to text the number with what info I want to know and what photos. That was a week ago, sent a follow up text today with no answer.

I messaged a facebook group member who lives fairly local. He has a V6 which doesnt have a working clutch (he said its hydraulic related) but it needs welding. Just awaiting photos to see how bad that is.

Wow that is thorough! I'd love the Blackpool V6 for myself but have no way to get it. Wasn't aware of a clutch-less one though!
I bought my 1.5 in Wales and drove it home (near London) with no clutch operation (always on)
As expected, replacing master and slave cylinders did the trick. Just be aware they are really difficult to bleed - ended up bench-bleeding, then re-attached pipe, then left overnight for fluuid to seep through. Sorted. Access in the V6 is bad but this should be do-able.
I couldn't get new master/slave cylinders so was lucky to be able to refurb my old ones (replaced O-rings and gave them a good clean)
Inner cill welding is the bain of BAs, and if it's bad around where the rear trailing arm attaches then you will need an extremely competent welder to rebuild the complex metal structures (currently having this done on my project V6)
Did you notice (as of early Jan 2024) there is someone in Scotland (Facebook Marketplace) with a LHD BA in Red. They are scrapping it and say they are open to offers for the whole thing!! If only I had the means....

I did see that one, but i'd have no where to put it lol I've also eyed up the two 1.5s on FB market place for £650, again no where to store them.

The green V6 in blackpool is now off sale, he has someone going to view this weekend and has taken a holding deposit.

The white V6 thats local I'm viewing tomorrow night just to see how bad the corrosion is. It's not publicly for sale and is off the radar, it may be too much work.

The silver V6 i'm viewing this saturday
