Over 6 years in the making, a turbo "Sport20" will soon be born. The car will be reborn with a stock MazdaSpeed turbo kit (which was equipped on the MazdaSpeed Protege) which will create the "FS-ZET", joining one of the handfuls which exist in this world but by far the most mild and streetable out of all of the others.

Through over 9 months of "conception", almost all brand new parts were acquired to complete this "kit". Everything is there down to the last bolt and the emissions sticker. What was good was purchased. What wasn't, upgraded parts were purchased.

A Weapon-R hard pipe kit will be utilized over the stock plastic intercooler pipes for reliability. They are the only *brand name* pipe kit available for the MazdaSpeed Protege and are actually very good quality despite its name. The price is also very good too. Unfortunately, it does not come with the intake pipe (aka suction pipe) as they assume you will be purchasing their crappy intake or using some other brand's aftermarket intake. I will be using the AutoExe ram air intake (and will be the only one to do so in the foreseeable future) which utilizes the stock (non-turbo) intake pipe, so a stock MazdaSpeed Protege intake pipe was also purchased.

With the J&S Ultra Safeguard already installed as it was the previous major engine related modification, the car is ready for a turbo through the use of a stock MazdaSpeed Protege ECU.

Special thanks to Ken at Protege Garage for the turbo kit, Apocman for the ported manifold and outlet pipe, MPNick for the manifold/pipe work!

A brand new turbocharger complete with exhaust manifold and outlet pipe was purchased. This is how Callaway ships these units to Mazda ready for installation at the ports for the MazdaSpeed Protege. Both exhaust pieces are heavy duty cast iron for durability. The turbocharger is a slightly modified Garrett GT2554RLS (from what I heard, the MazdaSpeed unit has a slightly better center housing bearing than the off the shelf units).

The stock wastegate actuator rod can also be adjusted for more boost.

Back to the question, you don't have a blow up doll in the boot do you - I once found a hissing noise caused by that :evil4:

after a 2nd tank of petrol, I was able to determine that my car gets 37 (UK) MPG :D
excellent fuel economy as long as I don't drive the car hard!
