Hey team mazda. Newbie here. I've been workinh on my nephews Mazda for a week now and i'm Just plain stumped!! Here's the run down...

1988 Mazda 323 HB SOHC 1.6 Injected non turbo 200k+ miles

The car will start and idle. It idles kinda rough but does. The main problem is that is has no power while driving down the road. Anywhere from 1000-3000 it's gutless! it will power up if you keep the revs up. I mean drive it like ya stole it! Hills are just a no no! Also hasn't thrown a code or check engine light. Feels like its not getting enough gas or the mixture is off

Things that I have done/checked

new fuel filter-pump
new spark plugs-wires...plugs kinda burnt looking after couple of weeks before this problem
new distributor cap-rotor
new/used TPS
new Alternator
New Radiator
checked compression--180 across the board
check timing/belt..on point
Tried a used Mass airflow sensor but ran worse so put other one back. Has a cone air filter
No crack in the tube after the sensor...no vap leaks that I can hear
Pulled off Cat to see if blockage. Kinda busted inside but not enough you couldn't see light thru
Muffler has a small crack in it but not bad
Not sure what the best way is to check the fuel rail/injectors...pulled the distributor and cranked it over a few times..plugs weren't wet.
Also not sure how to check to see if the ecu is bad or not.
Reset the computer incase it was in some kind of limp mode...nothin

That's what I'm working with and I'm just scratching my head on what to do next. Any and all Ideas, suggestions are welcome!!!

Thanks,
Batch

Have you checked all vacuum hoses off the inlet manifold? If its anything like the BA intake mani then there are quite a few that may be broken/split causing a vacuum leak?

Try the old spark plugs leads back on the car.
Try with stock air filter.
If no, the injectors could be clogged..

Checked all the vacuum hoses. All good. The thing with spark plugs is that it had stalled while driving. Nephew put new plugs in and drove fine. Then it started this stupid no power/acceleration problem. I wish I had the stock air box but the car was bought without it. I did check the timing. It was fine. Didn't put a new belt on, so I don't see how the belt could have jumped a tooth. I did take the cover off to check the belt. Looked okay. Not wet or cracked and had every nub.

OK, so if timing OK, plugs ok, leads OK. Air intake and vacuum no leaks, Have you checked spark is strong?
