Far from me to ask odd questions, but whilst stripping, cleaning, painting and re-fitting the left hand engine mount. I was puzzled at the rectangular solid steel block on the top, so I gave it a good twist and ripped it off :shock: – only to find its glued to the top of the mount with liquid rubber onto a steel plate.

Surly it cant be a weight balancing thing as it would have been easier to move something from the other side of the bay across and it doesn’t weigh THAT much….

Anyway, its removed and the mount looks loads smoother and neater without it 8-)

It transmits landborne vibrations and damps them. Its iron, not steel, and critically damped to the particular mount.

















although, I might have made all that up :lol:

It looks like a smoke grenade. So if you ever think your engine has failed, double check the pin just hasn't wiggled loose :)

The BJ has something similar on the gearbox mount, just looks like a piece of metal that does nothing...sure it must have a purpose :dontknow:

:scratch: how's that then? Its a solid piece of metal and reduces the clearance between the mount and the bonnet.......

DAMPER,DYNAMIC-ENG MOUNT

It will keep resonance vibrations out of the engine mount.
This takes up resonance vibrations in order to not put as
much stress on the engine mount while driving, accelerations.

I also wondered if it was a way of adding weight by Mazda to slow me down, knowing I’d be facing Scott again at Castle Combe in May :D

Some people added in the thread that other cars like the C2 have
massively large things like this which weighed about as much as a brick. :shock:
