has any1 converted a ba to rear wheel drive?, as i am gonna do the gtx conversion i would like some info if any1s tried or sucseeded in doin so, apparently all you have to do is turn the engine round so the gear box faces the rear instead of the side, take the mounts of the gtx engine bay, but im nt sure bout the prop shaft does any1 know if it would fit the ba,and would the rear subfit the ba, or what would fit to make rear wheel drive, thanks, rear wheel drive ba turbo

I think it cant be done without allot of work... Same thing goes for an even better plan, Cabriolet BA... Would look the dogs however not doable with HUUUGE amount of work. RWD would be less work but still considerable amount. Would be nice though as the BA is allready tail happy... |

I had this thought for about 20 minutes, until I looked at how much work would be involved. Engine would be rotated, you would have to build a tunnel for the gearbox, meaning stupid work on the interior and firewall, right through to the back, relocate exhaust, rebuild the rear drive train (I believe the BA is wider than the BG?), all pricey. |

nah you wouldnt have to rotate :P you just need to find a awd gtx gearbox and block off the front wheels???? i dnt think theres enough adjustment to the front wheels to do it... would be easier picking a rwd running gear and marrying them 
i would personaly say awd would be easier ??? |

Hmmmm I dont know much about BGs but if theres no rotating to do, I cant imagine awd would be much different to rwd. RWD means transplanting most of the running gear anyway, might as well shove the front drive train on there too and have 4wd

This is something I would absolutely love to do, along with the convertible conversion. When the band hits the big time and I make my millions, that will be my pet project. Might hold off and do it to a V6 rather than waste all that time, energy and money on the 1.5 Could even be a club project if there's anyone who knows the theory that wanted to help
In fact, if the engine was going to come out anyway, I guess I'd be as well replacing it with the KL-DE. Now that'd be sweet. |

thankyou people!!! and i mean awd is eaiser because u would have to change the camber and the whole set up of the front wheels if you watch a beemer turn the wheels change angle on the front as it steers.... bas dont do that....you would have crap handling from what i assume but dont shoot me if im wrong :P |

i believe that is the castor angle? like the sugar! i could easily be wrong here but that would be done by rotating the entire steering rackaround the axle so that it leans back slightly? so rather than steering being perpendicular to the ground, it is at around80-85deg? |

anything is possible when i comes to cars, eg ferrari v8 in a pulsar, typer in a mini and even two v6 in a lupo. also i know of a corsa b with a redtop running cav 4x4 running gear so its awd!! |

If you can get the running gear from a 4wd BG, with enough work and £££ it might just about go on but it would be so much hassle. Main problem other than the dimensions being different would be the space underneath the car for the driveshaft. There's not a lot of room under a BA as it is (even without that really important heatshield!) Anyone around here with LOADS of cash, spare time, a BA and a BG?

id rather have a bg awd its lighter
but id have rxer hubs hybrid with the gtr running gear
5 studd and fook off brakes
