I have acquired a spoiler to install once I get it painted which I am planning on doing myself but I don't know the EXACT position it's supposed to go. I would hate for it to be not sitting as it should or at an angle or such. Can anyone give me some sort of measurements so that I could place it properly and some tips? It's a preford spoiler if that makes any difference.

What is the attachment?
2 screws, one for each side or or 4 bolts 2 for each side?

Sundance has a pre-Ford spoiler, and it has two bolt holes at either end, and a hole in the middle leg for the spoiler light cable. It also has a hole to receive a bolt from inside the boot.

So a pre-Ford that needed the spoiler light would have two holes in the tailgate; but Sundance is post-Ford so only has one (no hole needed for the cable, as no spoiler light is intended). When I installed the light I didn't bother drilling a second hole, I just ran the cable into the boot through the bolt hole instead, and the middle of the spoiler is not bolted down. Because the spoiler has two bolts at either end, it's perfectly stable without the middle one. (the green circular thing is a tyre puncture patch, to keep water out of the hole, because the spoiler isn't bolted down)

As for positioning: the middle leg is exactly above the badge on the rear reflector:

You can see dirt marks on the tailgate, after I took the spoiler off to repaint it:

The bolts on either end of the spoiler come through the edge of the tailgate at these points:

The bolts required are M6/16mm "pan head" bolts/screws :thumbright:

Cheers for the info Serena. I had seen those pics scrolling through your thread but the added info is a great help. It would be awesome if you could find out the bolt size and what size drill bit I'd need to drill the holes. No particular rush as it will be another month or two before I try it.

I assume all pre-Ford spoilers are the same size, and use the same size bolts, but just in case, I would test-fit the M6s to the spoiler before you drill the holes in the tailgate!

Does the spoiler have the Mazda stamp on it?

Post a picture of your wing here so we can see it, and give you more accurate info about it's attaching.
I've already done it twice, ones on my wife's car and on a friend's car.
Drilling the holes i recomend you to do with 8mm drill so you could wiggle some missalingments.
The holes more or less matches the four tack welds (2 for each side) of the trunk when you look from beneath.
That said, this is for a wing with bolt attachment like the one on Serena's car: Sundance.
If your wing is with the two selftapping screws it's another thing..

I think that that is a cover on the screw on the right one.

This looks like mine.

Yes, there are usually two black plastic caps that cover the ends of the screws. They're just cosmetic, I still have them for Sundance.

Evidently someone has painted the one on yours! Looks like 16P green.

Awesome, I'll remember the position of the bolts when I paint and go to attach the spoiler. Any ideas how I can strip the paint where the Mazda stamp is? It seems that that area was standed down abit so part of the stamp isn't as embossed. I don't know if paint stripper would be too much for the spoiler to handle :?:

I'd try it on a very small area first, somewhere else - perhaps on the edge of one of the feet, underneath.

The spoiler itself is made of a composite of some sort, I don't think you'll damage that by taking off a bit of paint.

Though, you might want to find a dedicated paint remover that specifically says it's safe on plastic, composites, etc.
