Gathering parts to upgrade my 1.5 fronts to 1.8 brakes and was wondering if the mx-3 calipers are the same as the ones from the 1.8 and if they'd work with the 1.8 hubs/carriers

Hmm, interesting question. I don't know the answer, but it's a different car.
The MX3 was based on the BG 1.6 for the auto, and the 1.8 is very different to the BA as it's a V6.

Becuase the mx3 caliper is identical to the 1.8 BA caliper, at least the solid half of the caliper is. As I'm sourcing parts for the 1.8 brake swap and saw them, managed to find 1.8 calipers on eBay so got those to be extra safe. But my friend used mx3 calipers to do his upgrade, he used the solid part of the mx3 one with the hydraulic part of the 1.5 brakes and they fit perfectly.

Not 100% sure about MX-3. But can use both RX-7 FC & FD (lil bit of fabrication of course), but it fits and it clears my coilovers without any issues.
