Over the weekend, Hughie and I, amongst other things, fitted new discs and calipers to Meanie.

Now, when I brake, I get a knocking noise from the front end that keeps time with the rotation of the wheels, I.e. it gets slower as I brake.

I've refitted the wheels and one of the discs but its still there, any one had this before or know what its is, I'm stumped

MAYBE ITS A CHUNK OF MY VICE! :evil4:

I did some googling and all I found was what I suggested via text - try sanding the discs a bit in case its something on the disc surface. Try swapping the discs and seeing if the sound moves to the other side. Check for play in the wheel bearing (the old 9 and 3, 12 and 6 shake of the wheel).

Other than that, also pretty stumped here!

Check round the back too, ABS ring etc, and also make sure the pads are not too loose in the carriers

No ABS ring on the 1.5 Marc :thumbleft: and the 1.5/1.8 calipers don't have carriers, they're single piece calipers with pins going through the tops of the pads :(

Definitely! I'm thinking CV joint or wheel bearing, as we were pounding on the CV joint pretty hard for quite a while to replace the boot

Yep I donated some metal shims for Andy so he's got them all in place  it's a puzzler!

Also, your last text yesterday - it came through but my phone didn't see the point in saving it so I only saw the first line! :(

Hmmm...'tis puzzling indeed!

Just thought I'd let you know I went over and fitted a new o-ring...good job I did it yesterday, otherwise I wouldn't have noticed I need a new dizzy cap until tonight, and I'd never get one in time!

Sorry I've not posted guys, I've been mostly under the car!!!

Still no change!! But during an earlier conversation with Stu, it turns out it happens both in and out of gear under braking.

Tab keyboard playing up, update later

Hmm that suggests its more likely to be brake related or bearing related rather than CV joint? :dontknow:

Well, it's turned out to be the pads, once I'd done enough miles around Warwickshires finest A and B roads it completely went away :D

Even better, Meanie passed her yearly medical Friday, just on the edge emmisions wise, having said that this engine has now covered 185,000 so its probably due a rebuild sometime soon :p
