Just to update - as Todor asked on another thread.

The helicoil didn't work: the dead plug was on the rear bank (so, facing backwards), and because of the angle it was impossible to get enough downward pressure to cut the new threads.

So possibly it could still be done if the engine is out, or the head is taken off. The engine isn't necessarily scrap, but in terms of labour time, and parts, and getting Marcus (Drummerbloke) back on the road quickly, it's quicker and more efficient to just swap to a good engine. Hughie can do that in a few hours.

The existing engine could then be inspected, and if it's OK then it could be mended and used for another car.

The car is still at Hughie's, awaiting surgery.

Currently Marcus is chasing an SE that was offered to the club a couple of weeks ago, if he doesn't get that we have a few leads on new engines - so there should be a happy ending.
