I made this guide up a while ago as my rear hanbrake cable snapped and needed replaced asap for its MOT
Get the correct handbrake cables for your car. Ideally replace them in a pair.

First of all remove your hanbrake housing by moving your front seats forward and locating the two phillips screws and removing them. The housing just slips off then.
Next loosen the front centre handbrake cable

Next jack up the rear of the car and secure with axle stands then remove the two rear wheels. Beware of you positioning of the axle stands as you need access to the cable.
Follow the handbrake cable and remove it at all of the points where it is secured pictured here.

The next bit is a bit of a problem as you need to access where the front cable is attached to the two rears. I removed my exhaust at this point pictured and let it hang down.

The heat shield can then be removed (3 bolts) and slid around.

Giving access to this

When the old cable is completely removed make sure you know which one goes on as i believe there is a difference in length between the left and right rear cables.
Old and new sitting side by side:

Now the easy part, just fit the handbrake cable securing the bolts where you removed the old one (going from middle front of the car to the rear and then clip it on the handbrake u clamp thing where it was removed from. Repeat all for the other side.
Heat shield back on, exhaust back on (you might need some putty if there is a leak or even better buy a new exhaust seal from fordprobestore). Wheels back on, car back on the ground, tighten nuts, tighten up your cable via the bolt in picture 2 and put your handbrake guard back on.
Job done
