Installing eBay cupholder - keep

I got one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=018 from eBay for less than £20 inc postage.

It says DIN size but it’s a bit smaller than the aperture left when the storage box is removed, so a bit of simple butchering is required:

With a metal rule under the edges prise the storage box out of the dash. The cupholder will fit inside the storage box, but only after a bit of fettling.
Hacksaw the lip out of the mouth of the box, then cut the end off leaving a sleeve. Then saw down the edges to allow it to splay out as the cupholder is pressed in.

Modify the cupholder by sawing off the bosses on the sides and filing off the corners to smooth rads.

Do a trial fit, the cupholder should now be a snug fit into the sleeve. If it is, clip the sleeve back into the dash, the press the cupholder into it.

Doesn't quite foul in 1st & 3rd, but agree it is closer than ideal. When got more time will look into swapping it with the stereo which I've spotted a few have done.

'fraid whether the cupholder goes above or below, you're not going to get to the stereo easily. Nowt we can do about that, just make sure you've got the right CD on when you leave the coffee shop!

Right, had another tinker this afternoon and swapped the cupholder with the stereo and the result is much more practical. In the photos below the gearlever is in 3rd:

Same problem getting to the stereo Parvez, so guess there's a dilema:
Coffe or music? Coffee or music? Coffee or music? COFFEE!!!!!!

Sandy is shorter than me, and from her driving position she can reach under to the stereo quite happily. Guess we need to shrink!

Yeah, be VERY careful with the spilling chap, NEVER put a full cup in there, because no matter how secure you think the lid is, and not matter how carefull you THINK you're driving, some will inevitably leak out, in my case, costing me my £1500 AVIC-X1 :shock:

Ahh, I see why the link no longer works, it's 8 years old :roll:

How did you find this on ebay i.e. what search term did you use? All I can find are ones you clip to the vents, but would love one to replace the unused cassette holder!

Search mazda mx5 & mx3 cup holder. I got one in my ba fits nice. I would get you a link to it but im on my phone and i dont know how :oops:
