Hey guys, i've had my 1.8 for a couple of months now. i've recently whipped of tHe old filter box, and put on a universal pod filter. it fitted straight on next to tHe air flow meter, and i fashioned a brace to hold it steady (tHe rubber piping was not strong enough to hold it up, did u guys find that?). anyway, now tHere is a popping sound coming out through tHe filter at slow speeds, usually while going round corners or over bumps. it's not really loud, but loud enough to be a bit embarrasing. ha anyone know what this is, and how to stop it?? paul |

Yeah dude mine does the same,and i know of others that do it aswell,dont be concerned,im over it 
it would of done this even with the standard airbox but because it was fully enclosed you couldnt hear it 
you'll find that if your stopped and turn the steering wheel one way to another that it will pop continuously most of the time,this would be cause of the revs slightly kickin up when the power steering is operating causing it to make that poping sound through the intake:twisted: |

What year model is yours dude,cause ive found that the series 1 had a slightly diff intake and didnt make this noise with the pod on,seriesii im not sure on wether it does it,mine is a series 3(nov 97m) and every1 i know with a pod on the series iii has this noise
like i said dont be concerned about it,mines been doing it for over 3 years now and i havent damaged anything,its just something you learn to live with

Its your power steering that makes the noise through the induction kIt 
i spent ages working It out. rev to 1.2k and turn the wheels side to side and It will pop again and again 
nothing to worry about |

Yeah mine must be a series 3 aswell, cos it's nov or dec '97. power steering aye....well nice to know it's nothin to worry bout. cheers guys
