| Post subject: | Replacing Timing Belt and Water Pump on 1.5 P-Reg |
After many happy months of water pump squeal the time came to sort it Popped the cam cover off which reveals mine needs the 123-tooth timing belt (if you have no chain and if the belt goes round BOTH cams then you need the 125 tooth belt) ![]() Lined up the timing marks ready to start stripping stuff off ![]() With the alternator and power steering pump loosened, drive belts off and covers off, the water pump was easy enough to remove ![]() This pretty piece was troublesome - I cleaned the flange really nicely, but that other hole fits on the water rail passing behind the exhaust and takes a small O-ring. We got through three before it sealed properly ![]() So here's the new timing belt kit (about £50 in 2024) ![]() And the old water pump. Had fun wobbling the shaft, it was remarkable how much play there was ![]() Here's a view from below, showing the bottom pulley removed. I also removed the bolt that holds the dip-stick tube, in order to get the plastic covers off ![]() New belt went on realy nicely, and pump went in easily. Just be careful with the water pump and cover bolts - they're not all the same length ![]() So other than that pesky O-ring it was a relatively easy job, about 3 hours in total |
