So I was out today when it suddenly started pouring buckets. I have a cai and the filter sits on top of the splashguard. I was only 2 minutes away from my house when it started raining. When I got home I checked the filter and a part of it was damp/wet so I'm assuming some water did get into the intake but the engine seems fine, cranks and works fine and no weird noises.

A couple people have told me they've ran the same setup for years and never had a problem. I'm just really worried I've done harm to my 1.5. I was planning on changing mine to something less risky but still.

My question is do you think I've done damage? And how much does it take to do damage and hydrolock it?

Don't worry a bit..
It is good to hold the car on idle for a while when you stop, but if you got it wet just from the raindrops is nothing to worry about.
If you went troughout a "river" with filter being beneat the water level, then you should worry about it.
Cheers!
