| Post subject: | Power Band !?!?! |
Question to all V6er's My car has 2 powerbands at the moment. The main power comes in at 4000rpm (first set of valves open), then a second blast (!?!) comes in at 5000rpm. My car is very much standard (81,000 miles) and i am wondering if this is common. Its not affecting anything engine wise so just intrigued if this is across the engines or if Mazda have not set the timing correctly when they did the belt change. |

It's about right - certainly mine behaves like that. Max torque (where you get the acceleration from) is at 5000rpm, hence that boost. I've heard conflicting reports about where max power is: 4000 or 6000, but either way, when the max torque arrives you'd expect more pulling power. I don't find either change especially abrupt - not like a turbo - but there is certainly a difference as you get to 4000. Then more power comes in as you increase the revs, then the rate sieems to increase at about 5000 right up until just before the rev limiter cuts in. M |
