I drive a 1995 Mazda 323 Astina 2L V6 (BA Model) I have noticed recently that the coolant

level in my car is slowly leaking.

The leaks appear when the car is stationary for serveral hours and the leak is located on

the drives side engine bay. The leak is definately coolant and it is a small leak (I will

have to refill the coolant every 1-2 months)

I have been told there is a known problem with the water pump (which could be the cause of

this problem) can anyone confirm/deny this or add some insight to this before i take it to

the mechanic?

yea the water pump has problems, you can se it above the gearbox, my mate is just having his replaces with an eletric pump

I had the same problem on my 1.8 16v after about 130,000 km's ... Cured by replacing the waterpump (which wasn't cheap !). On my 1.8, the cambelt has to be removed to replace the waterpump, so I'd recommend you replace the cambelt while they've got her in pieces. Just make sure they get the cam timing right when they put it back together ...

Thats just a water outlet housing above the gearbox

The water pump is on the side of the motor furthest from the gearbox, hidden away under the cam belt, about half way up.
