I'm about to refit the head on my 1996 1.8 . Got a head gasket set but am I right in thinking I should assemble it dry, or should I be using gasket sealant when installing the head? It's a metal gasket if that makes a difference. Thanks. PS - it's only with the vast amount of information on this forum that I've attempted this job myself, so to all who take the time to post the technical stuff, it is VERY much apprecicated. Cheers from a very sunny Bonnie Scotland

I'd recommend you get a tube of "Indian Head" gasket compound. It's not mainly for sealing - the head gasket should do that dry - it's mainly to assist in dis-assembly next time (Thinking WAY ahead here !) |
