| Post subject: | Brake Light |
Ive posted this before, but the problem has become worse and now is on near enough all the time... Especially when accelerating, braking, hitting humps :S... Any ideas..Brakes seem okay?? Although i am gettin unusual vibrations whilst driving..I can feel it around my feets..it may have nothing to do with the brakes..? Not sure Any ideas guys...im sure it will fail an MOT on it |

have you checked your brake fluid level Make sure it's right on the max Make sure the float in the brake fluid reservior isn't stuck down either

havn't checked the float yet but the fluid level is full... This started a few weeks back and the light only came on once a day and for 5 minutes... Its gradually gone worse:? |

The float won't be stuck down then, it'd be on all the time then. Probably a dodgy handbrake switch, or maybe a chaffed wire somewhere I'm pretty sure it won't fail an MOT on it though as long as all the brakes work OK

also check your brake light bulbs, at the rear of the car. i believe these cars have a "bulb broken" warning. maybe you got a dodgy connection or a loose bulb. the handbrake switch wire is only held on with a spade connector. remove the centre console and check its on properly. sounds to me like a loose wire or something though.....

remove the centre console...you mean the entire dash
I won't have time to do that until after my exams (2 weeks)
You reckon its safe to drive? |

i have the same problem when accelerating hard out of a corner, have just done my discs, and pads, and now the clutch has gone, so dont know if that makes any difference, and i was getting the vibrations too, before i changed the discs, which i have had on a few other cars, and generally a disc change fixes the vibration, and i am quietely wondering if there is a sensor or something that picks up a low brake contact point? which causes the brake light on the dash to come on, should be getting it back on monday, shall put it through its paces and let you know

There is no low pad sensor warning, apart from a little metal tag that contacts the disc and makes a squeeling noise The rear end of the centre console comes out quite easily to gain access to the hand brake mech.

the pads themselves being low won't put the light on, low fluid level will
