Sounds like it could be running a bit rich
but would have thought it would have been on all four plugs

Hi, I recently changed my spark plugs and notice oil on two of them. Can anyone give me any kind of idea of what maybe causing this problem? Previous to changing the spark plugs the car was not delivering power properly on the low revs (esp. in 1st gear) Since replacing the spark plugs all is good, except this oil problem. ......could be that the gaskets for the engine cover are starting to become hard and brittle (depends on age and wear, but usually starts from 60,000 or so....) I found that mine were starting to leak a little oil when the Friction Gear was changed and we found oil on the last 2 spark plugs when we finished (though that may have happened when the engine was 'open') ...I'm not sure there's any other way for oil to get into the spark plugs but check with a mechanic (...just don't book the car in for them to 'look' at it cos that oculd prove expensive!! ...just ask them 'in passing conversation'!!  )

Check in any Haynes manual - they have a bit on spark plugs and what various deposits etc mean. Mark |
