Oh it sucks when you get another made and it don't fit properly... I'd try another shop that cuts keys and ask if they can guarantee that it will work cos I've had this problem with a bike before |

If the key turns the ignition barrel but the car won't start it probably has a factory-fitted immobiliser. A "security" light will come on in the dash. If so you'll have to get a key from a Mazda dealer that has a chip in the plastic bit. You'll then have to get it coded to the car. The dealer will tell you all about it. I had to do this for mine..... |

Good thinking Mark I forgot about the immobiliser. I think most 323's come with them... |

If it is the Mazda issue immobiliser, you might be able to get a better aftermarket alarm/immobiliser fitted for less than buying the special Mazda goodies ... Might be worth looking into |

hmm....heres a trick..If your keys are like mine...use a screw driver and open the clip on the key...inside should be a chip...take it out and selotape it with the new key...easy DIY job...this should start the engine ...Done it with my brothers old Daewoo...Yes i know..i was ashamed of that daewoo...cost my bro hundreds in repairs and depreciated by the second...lolz
Shabba...if your new key opened your door lock and not ur ignition..then i think you do have an immobiliser...check your key...does it have a small piece on it which can be pulled out by a screw driver?? |

Immobiliser or not, I'd play safe and get a key from Mazda. Using your chassis (VIN) number the dealer can get one from Mazda cut to your original pattern. Mine was fine, though needing a bit of bedding in to smooth the edges. It's not cheap mind (£17.89 + VAT for a coded one). |

If the new key won't turn in the barrel it might be because the key isn't worn like the old key. I had this problem with my Citroen ZX. I took the key back to the key cutting guy and he rounded off the edges as if it was worn. This did the trick and we all lived happily ever after! Well, until the Shitroen broke down - but thats another story for another time. Mark |

When my Edith got Hi-Jacked a couple of years ago, I was luck to have a tracking device, 'cause it helped the cops find the car within 1/2 an hour. Unfortunately, the bastards who hijacked me took the keys. I found a locksmith who pulled out all the lock barrels (i.e. both front doors, boot and ignition) and rearranged the levers. Then he cut me two new keys to fit the bastardised locks and everything works 100's !! Cost me R600 all together ... |
