Hey guys - following swiftly on from my valve problem I now seem to have another problem.

As some of you may know, I like my gadgets - but a smoke screen isn't one of them.

She's very hesitant upon acceleration and smokes like hell when cold (very light white/grey).

I'm dropping her in for an emmisions test tomorrow - but according to my description the garage reckons the Lambda sensors up the duff. This senses oxygen levels in the exhaust manifold and tell the ECU how to set the fuel/air mixture to suit - it apparently does this 100's of times per second...........but not if it's dead.

As they apparently have a life expectancy of 30 - 50,000 miles, (mines done 62k) just wondered if anyone else had suffered with a similar problem?

Cheers

Rich(seriouslyconsideringchoppingherinforanrx8)ardesty

.... would like to do the same, but unfortunatley funds not available :( and I need 5 seats in my car lol, so the F will have to do, as long as she survives the diagnosis.

by the way as far as I know I have never had any probs with Lambda sensor and mine done over 140k

Thanks for the advice lads!

Car's back in for more diagnostics, I bloody hope it's as simple as replacing the sensor - can't afford owt else!

Keep you posted......

Lambda sensors (also called Oxygen sensors) tend to degrade after about 60/70K. They measure the amount of oxygen in the exhaust and the ECU adjusts the fuel mixture accordingly.

After about 60K their reaction to changing oxygen levels starts to slow and you tend to lose performance, fuel economy and have slight hesitation on acceleration. I recommend changing an old oxygen sensor as otherwise unburned fuel gets into the CAT and can eventually clog it up (more expensive to replace than an oxygen sensor).

You can buy universal Lambda sensors for about £35 including delivery and VAT.

Hope this helps,

Rich,

Could the sensor have been damaged when the engine work was being done?

And maybe I should get a new sensor (nice and simple performance 'upgrade'!! )

Hmm, I've obviously considered this myself, but other than being disconnected - it hasn't actually been removed from the car.

Just one of those things I'm afraid, and just hope that this is all it is!

Hope so too;

I can't have my 323F 'mentor' (saw YOUR car first!!) going off and getting himself one of those RX-8s....'sides; they're getting pretty common nowadays! :P

I found out that MY car had influenced Dragon Rob into the 323F scene so I know how chuffed you must feel everytime someone comes up to tell you how your car affected them! :D

Don't worry want - if I could afford an RX-8 I'd have had one by now, and would still have Maisy!

Definately won't be able to afford one after what I'm shelling out on repairs.............plus I need two new tyres, oh - and the insurance is due next month!

Still lover her to bits though

Try pulling the oxygen sensor out and cleaning it with electronic cleaning solvent b4 you shell out for a new one

Cheers - I had thought about that but worried about damaging it getting it in and out!

Hmmm I have the same problem with people using pictures of my Caricature as avitars, and even as logo's for an owners club.
Wouldn't mind if they'd ask me first!

I don't mind though really - it's just the principal
