Can anyone in the Cambridge area recommend a garage to get my F MoT'ed? I did use St Peters Garage in Ely, but as they don't do the Mot themselves and they charged £200 for a service, I thought I'd try somewhere else.

I've heard good things about the Cowley Rd Garage, any thoughts?

Cheers 8)

I'd say Barr Tech as well.

I'm currently considering travelling away to have work done on my car as Barr Tech are still £40 + Vat per hour and there are other garages in cheaper parts of the country who only charge £20 and hour.

Depends on the amount of work to be done to make it worth a weekend away!!

Went to Barr-Tech... They are now £45 ph and it cost me £650 to get her through!!!!!!!!!!!! Ouch!

But that included 4 new tyres, both rear coil springs, LHF bottom ball joint, both rear antiroll bar link rods and they did only charge me for the 2.1 hours they the book said it would take, when in actual fact they spend about 6 - 7 hours on her! (Damn Mazda parts!!)

My Lantis is there as we speak having a check up and service. I hope to god she's ok! [-o<

I would definately recommend them as they know their stuff, I waited around while they did the MoT and saw lots of pics of the work they carried out on various Ferraris, Porkers and a rolled Clio V6. Very professional finishes.

I serviced my Edith last Saturday - R700 (about £60) for Castrol GTX 20w50 oil, GUD oil filter, Bosch Super plugs and a set of Bougi Cord plug leads (the old ones have done 8 years/170,000 km to the best of my knowledge) and 350ml Pro-Long. I'm not sure if the Pro-Long really works, but lots of people recommend it and I'm sure it can't really do any harm.

Oh yeah; I put in a bottle of Wynns engine flush on Thursday, to clean out all the detrius and the oil really flowed out nicely when I pulled the sump-plug. (I took her for a bit of a ride just before, so it was good and hot and runny)

By the way, it's definately the wheel on the right hand side (facing frontwards) you take off to access the oil filter. Out of interest, I lifted the right side to remove the wheel and to get at the sump plug. On a whim, I lifted the left side while she was draining, and about another half a litre came out ...

Anyway, she's running like a charm now - definately very happy !

£120 for the service?!

Guess I'm going there for my next service then!!

I don't even want to think about how much Mazda would want for the same work as it might get me all p!ssed off again!!

I'm sure that I have hit 7200RPM before, maybe even 7500 when I changed from 5th to 3rd at too high a speed once whilst running Ecotek PowerBoost "through the rev range" ....excellent excuse to have a top speed test!! 136MPH! (though no idea what the true speed was cos I didn't have any equipment 'cept for the speedo!)
