1996 BA 1.5 LXi, approx 108,000 miles.
had it for around 9 months.
blimey, where to start...
new radiator (ouch - i got one from mazda!)
new rear subframe (easier than it sounds!)
both rear anti-roll bar links
n/s/f track rod end
broken o/s/r spring
distibutor cap & rotor arm

2001 2l turbo diesel, 40,000 miles,
had for 11 months.

- think my clutch is going (323boy, how much was yours?)
- steering squeels
- Just developing a rattle, could be exhaust or maybe the turbo.
- and alarm goes of sometimes when i unlock, but i think that the previous owner had an alarm fitted then ripped it out which is causing it.

But still the best car i'v had, i had a clio from new that was the worst.

I had a thought the other day (yes, it hurt). For an 11 year old car, my F is fantastic!! I really am impressed by it. After all the moddding it's gone through, a few track sessions, an Autotest (quite demanding on the car) and 126,000 miles (50,000 by me), it's really doing bloody well :D

2003 2.0 Sport........just passed 25,000 miles

Had it for 18 months now and no mechanical problems yet (touch wood)

Just problems with modifications (back box mount rewelded twice now!) and old women running into it (new left rear door & respray!)

All in all its been a joy to own and run so far..........but its bout to hit that magic 3 year old mark soon when it will need its first MOT, i just hope things keep running smoothly

113,000 miles. Owned for 18 months.

Problems:

Major - ABS motor, n/s/r sensor. Cost to repair too much! ABS turned off.
Minor - CV joints on the way out.
Minor - Could do with a new rocker cover gasket for the front bank.

Other than these its been perfect, the car eats miles and the engine is in superb condition. I think the abs problem is rare.

ZXi SE from September 1998
almost 50,000 miles
owned since March 2003

Always get it fully serviced on time when possible.. £160 inc MOT from a garage in Peckham, London. Got timing belt changed on time as well.

Things I needed to spend on car.. this year is probably the only time I needed to spend on new things or repairs.

Feb 2005 - bought some new H1 bulbs as old one burnt out
July 2005 - £224 for four Yokohama tyres and £40 fitting
Dec 2005 - both rear shocks, drop links and front brake pads.. about £340 inc fitting.. bulb for rear plate replaced with service.

Other things gone wrong, but not fixed:

* Some 'squiggly' noise coming from the drivers side seat belt holder area, not sure what it is, but want to get rid of it!
* The aerial doesn't fully extend now, need to get a new one when I'm bothered to fix it!
* Also, don't think my heated mirrors are working properly, don't know how much it'd cost to fix that.
* Passenger side speaker connection is loose, so doesn't work most of the time

Mods I done:

* Changed standard Clarion CD player to el cheapo Sony CDX-3300 MP3 player

Maisey was born in March 97 on a P plate, and I bought her in July 98 with 6500 miles on the clock.

Currently running at 80,000 miles.

She's regularly serviced, and I've replaced many components whilst keeping up with my numberplate logo 'Made in Japan - Modified in Britain' so my problems have been relatively minimal. However:

I had to have an engine strip down about a year ago when she started running rough due to a severe carbon build up in the engine - then weeks later the oil pump went and took a couple of cylinders with it, resulting in a full engine rebuild.

Other than that - my only problem is the way I keep getting through front brake discs and pads. I must be on my 5th set already!

323f 1.8 exec Auto, 1997 on an R plate, bought Nov 05 with just 73k miles.
Not serviced as described despite the book being stamped. Auto box fluid was tired & dirty, Ive now flushed it through with 15 litres ATF and its sweet. £32
3 engine oil changes at 1000mile intervals, (vauxhall 10-40 semi synth, now its nice & clean. £30
Set of plugs & air filter. £13
Aircon was gassed before I bought it.
Cambelt done 8k miles ago
Sticky window switches.

WIPER BLADES ALL ROUND £22 & WIPER RACK £72 TRADE FROM MAZDA DEALER

Previous 1.8 Exec. (98' R) had 6,000 on the clock when bought (June 99) - wrote off at 120,000, full service twice a year(not Mazda) and only needed front bulbs, centre section exhaust, down pipe, and battery - only as I did'nt close the boot properly at the airport going on holiday.
New ZXi(97'R) Sump - Alloys, but some things are optional

Still the most reliable car produced by far. :thumbleft:
* Watch cars with classic red paintwork. In summer it can fade almost every other week, don't polish too often otherwise you will ruin the paint!

* The 2.0V6 models should be trimmed as GLX up until N'reg on a Jan 1996 plate. They then became ZXi models. If you see a P-reg GLX model it will be an import and people are advertising these on the web for sale and don't specify them being imports despite specs being the same as UK models
Today the little flap over the key lock on the drivers door broke and disapeared somewhere. Still works, but something to look out for.

4 years with my 1.8 liter BA.

104,000 km on the clock and without critical problams.

until now, i didnt change the timing belt but soon im going to replace it cuz my water pump kinda started to make noise (kch kch).

oh, and a upper water hose had a hole 2 month's ago.
im going to make a huge project soon and publish it on my site (MCI - mazda club israel).

im going to replace :
water pump
timing belt with oil seals
engine left mounting (maybe the right mount 2)
brakes (all wheel) with fluied.

maybe i'll make an english version and post it to here.

323f BA P reg 1.5 16v DOHC clock says 83,000 but new engine only done 53,000
Valves manufactured too soft so replaced shims. Eventually valves wouldn't close and ended up hitting piston. Changed head. Oil leak round distrubutor and through breather pipe into k&n.
Replaced engine. Still some oil problems through breather. Alot better now tho.
Leaky sunroof!
New aerial because spoiler snapped it off!lol!
Loads of fuses.
Clutch. Rear anti roll bars after lowering.
Had it 3 years

97 BA this past year has been testing

Electrics playing up and fusing bulbs constantly.
Rear Bushes replaced
Front left headlight can no longer be manually adjusted, still past the MOT.
Rear shocks are now completely shot, I think my old bushes I had in help it on its way.
Starting to spot rust.
Still can't figure out my central locking problems.

Still all that said the engine is great and thats all that matters.

Another update on the Mantis....

CV Joints going/gone (I think its both, but something like NZD$50 per side (like... less than 20 Pounds), from MAZDA Dealer :D) - mad clicking when turning right and accelerating, less clicking when turning left.
Right Rear Wheel Bearing quite noisy, have to replace ASAP, about NZD$140 per side (45 Pounds... again from MAZDA Dealer)

On a positive note,
Engine has hardly 'tapped' due to the tappets, after putting in some 15w40 oil, Mobil. Might try that next oil change...

Just needs all belts replaced, water pump, etc etc done (not gone, but just to be safe, touch wood)

Maybe a new battery, Optimax Deep Cycle Heavy Duty battery ;)

:D

hmm.. I think its safe to say that the following are common problems...

Exhaust (heatshield rattle)
Weak suspension parts.. (track rods, ball joints, wheel bearings etc)
Water pump failure :S
Calipers prone to siezures (sp?)

I keep hearing alot of those and my own F has suffered from most those on the list above :(
