Good evening folks,

I just picked up a 1989 BG 1.6 16v SOHC with a carb today; I have been pining after it for a month and caved.

I have big plans for this car, but will take time to make it safe prior to doing anything major. It also needs to have some rust removed. I do plan to swiftly remove the boy racer body kit and stick something a bit nicer on.

I look forward to chatting to you lot!

I don't like "boy-racer" kits but that one doesn't look all that bad. Maybe it's just in Oz we have exceptionally bad ones! Still better to get rid of it though.

The wheels do look reasonable as well. And the small rear spoiler quite good.

Maybe it's just your photo-taking skills! :-)

Hope you don't get those g#d-awful fake metal pedal cr@p that seems to have been the rage in Oz for the past 10 years or so...worse, it's expanded to coloured/anodised floor mats. And spoilers that resemble a skillion roof/awning- mounted at about that height off the boot lid they should require a building permit. Ugh!

I like the little boot-lip spoilers, they make great boot-lid handles ;-)

Hello & welcome! :D

Fantastic to see another BG on the forum :thumbleft: I'd love one, but I'm already juggling two BAs

What are you planning to do to it, after rust and boy racer removal?

I want to make it look more JDM rather than slapping a giant spoiler or anything on!

I will be stripping out the interior though, and have it more as a track car. I want to swap the rear brakes for disks and also install a roll cage. I'm thinking of eventually swapping in a 1.8 BP and turboing it.

Thanks for the welcome folks!

We have a few people on here with turbo BP's mate so there's some knowledge knocking around. Always good to have another track companion for some fun :)

See Hellracers thread in the builds section if you're after some inspiration

Looks good it's a pakfeifer fase1 bumperkit

Maybe lower it first? Investing allot of money in an old car needs some research mate, make sure that the body is solid and proper. I have done many swaps, currently having a 2,5ltr v6 in it. Roll cage, coil overs etc etc. Walk true my topic. A lot of crap but also some nice bits

Have fun here!
