My front right caliper is sticking in a bad way, is it better to refurb it or replace?

Don't have much experience with messing around with the braking system so a replacement would seem like a more straight forward option, also looking at the service history it looks like they were refurbished a couple of years back so it seems like the caliper itself is a bit dodgy!

Pretty normal on these cars, well just sliding caliper brakes in general. I refurbed mine, and first time round I nipped the dust seal, so after a couple of years it stuck again. Next time round, they're still working.

Refurb ain't much more difficult than swapping, there's a guide on here somewhere. I would almost advise a refurb yourself and taking your time to make sure it's done right.

This and rust are about the only real bad points on these cars... ;)

Cheers.

Refurb kits on ebay are around a tenner so I figure its probably worth a try. I'll have a look for the guide.

Here's the guide: viewtopic.php?f=35&t=37797

Couple of things I'll add now having had a bit of experience with it all.

-Check your sliders are working nicely. New fitting kit on the brake pads will help a lot (well so will new discs and pads, and flexi lines etc, but stuff being clean to work helps the most).

-If you have access to an air compressor, that's an easier and less potentially damaging way of getting the piston out.

-I found seating the dust seal inside the caliper first, then putting the piston into the dust seal and then pushing the piston into the caliper a better way round of installing the seal than the way suggested in the guide - you can be a bit more sure that everything is sitting where it should be.

- Push the piston in completely square - obvs...but easy to start going on the wonk and that's bad.

Good luck :)
