just wondering if anyone has tried this before, and, if they had any joy?
Are there any possible donor cars out there?

BA 1.8 is the easiest donor! Would take you from 235mm discs to 254mm!

After that, have a look at 323F_ROCK's build thread!

I have done swap on my 1.5.At the front with 1.8 disks and at the rear V6 brakes. It sure is a big difference in stoping now.
What i think Smurfs wanted to ask is if someone put some sort of those "big brake kits" flying arround in e-bay on 1.5 BA.Or am i wrong?

Thanks Hughie & maZZda, are the disks a straight swap or will it require hubs/hub carrier and caliper too?

BA 1.8 discs are a straight swap :thumbleft:

EDIT: But you'll need BA 1.8 hub carriers, as the caliper is the same, it's the hub carrier which is different!

When i changed my front brakes i did saw that callipers are the same size, althought the pads on the 1.8 are a bit "taller"(longer to the center of the disks) they might get into the 1.5 calliper.I had 1.8 everything and overhauled the 1.8 parts as the car was up and running, after that i just swap them over and drove the next day.One sure difference thou.. there is a numbers on the callipers!! on 1.5 there's "22V" on the 1.8 there's "24V", don't know if there is any other difference, but sure this tells me that this 1.8 callipers are a bit different..I think i entangled my self in explanations.. hope you understand me. :D

If you're going swapping hubs about etc.....how difficult is it to swap from 1.5 to V6? You could go either Mazda 6 MPS brakes then at 320mm with harsher brake pad compounds or go even bigger!

Problem with swapping to V6 is going from 4 to 5 stud - you'd have to get custom discs made (ask Lee and Nathan) or get some new 5 stud wheels. That's what I did!

Fair point.....worth it for the MOAR brakes though :p

You'd have to weigh up the cost to benefit ratio and set a target of what you want really Smurf. You could swap to 1.8 which gives you a bit bigger brakes and would be plug and play....OR....swap the fronts over to V6 hubs etc and have a few more options for bigger brakes but need new 5 stud alloys.

If you're keeping it street then I'd say option one as it's easier and cheaper....if you're going down the track route, options two all day :) :thumbright:

Yeah its mainly going for street, stopping on 1.5's is patchy at best and doesn't really inspire confidence at the best of times so a bit more bite is what I'm after most.
Appreciate all the replies though folks. Anyone breaking a 1.8 ;)

Wait, Whaat?
Custom disks? What about the stock MX-3 V6 rear disks that i use on Anti?? 4x100 studs,240mm if i'm not wrong, straight fit with V6 caliper and 4stud hub.

Custom FRONT discs :thumbleft:

The rear discs are fine, you can use MX-3 ones as you say, but front's you'll need some custom ones made - Lee and Nathan, I believe you had yours turned down on a lathe didn't you?

Nathan just wanted to use a lathe......in his leopard print mankini and nothing else

Are the calipers on the front of your car MX5 ones then Nathan? I don't think going down the MX5 route is a bad shout tbh - there's still quite a few race series out there so performance pads should be everywhere.

No, its a right mismatch or parts
Mx5 discs
Mazda 626 GD caliper hangers
Subaeu legacy 2 pot calipers
Mazda 323F V6 hub carriers
Mazda 323F 1.8 hubs
Mazda 626 GD pads

I think if we decide to improve brakes again I'll go to brembos from an evo with custom discs like hugeballs did
