Hi everyone,
I'm in the process of refreshing my beloved V6, daily driven for the past 8 years.
I bought it with burning oil problem that worsen over the years so I found Probe automatic with healthy KLDE and along with the engine swap I was considering few minor updates. One of them is faster steering rack.
323F steering is not that slow, and it has really good feedback but I always thought car would significantly benefit from a bit more direct steering. I already have protege steering wheel that is smaller than the original.
My first thoughts were racks from MX-5 NB or MX-3 V6 (I read that Ford Escort owners swap theirs for MX-3 V6 racks as a direct swap, as the cars are built on the same platform), but both those racks look quite different from 323F's. Here are links of all three at mazdaepc:
To get to my question, has anyone done this before, I've extensively searched the forum and couldn't find similar topic.
Is it something that can be done with slight modifications and custom steering fluid hoses or something that is nearly impossible.
Is there any other faster rack that I'm missing out that could be more direct swap?
Also, does anyone know how much the original flywheel for 2.0 V6 weights, as I found on the web, KLDE flywheel weights 22lbs, and K8 weights 17lbs?
Best regards,
