Just wondering, is there a relay for the rear wiper? If so, where will I find it?

I've not taken the rear wiper mech apart before, but I'm looking at the rear wash-wipe wiring diagrams in the Haynes Manual for pre- and post-Ford, and they don't seem to include relays.

(Correct me, anyone with more experience?)

What's up with it, wiper not working?

Thanks for having a look Serena, when I got the car the rear wiper had been deleted, I'm not a fan of that look and like to see what's behind me. Took the wiper and motor off womble so I know its working, but nothing. Swapped over the washer bottle motor too, still nothing, stripped out the entire wiring loom and swapped over, still nothing.

Its a puzzle, unless there is a relay or random fuse somewhere in stumped.

I would try fuses mate but i don't think there is a solo one for the rear wiper.....maybe it was deleted because it didn't work?

I took mine out a while ago but didn't look really, just ripped it out :/

Could it be the wiper stalk/switch? Does it have the controller unit/time built in? Has it been changed/swapped or pulled from another model?

There are fuses for the rear washer and wiper: on a pre-Ford fusebox it's a red 10amp, extreme bottom left (wiper and washer); on a post-Ford it's a 10amp far left, second row up (only says wiper - don't know about the washer, not listed elsewhere in the fuse list).

Let me know if you want any scans of the wiring diagrams :thumbleft:

As far as I know the MoT doesn't check the rear wiper ...

Jingle bells, phew....lol
Serena, that confuses me even more, it would appear that my early pre-ford, has a post-ford fuse box....... I think I'm going to call this car Jester as its having a laugh :)

Ah, I should correct myself, as I think I'm misleading you! I thoughtlessly said "pre" and "post", but having checked again, the book differentiates them as "pre 1995" and "1995 onward" - if yours is a '95 pre-Ford it would still have the later fusebox version (unless it was built earlier but not sold/registered until '95: but I suspect the change probably came with the switch from BG to BA).

I wonder if this switch also matches when the ECU started talking to external interfaces?

I remember there being something about a changeover, my 1994 won't talk to an external device (at least not ones I can get a hold of) but later ones will.

Serena is correct: the BG had relays, but on the BA the rear wiper is controlled by the computer, so no separate relays.

The manual says there is a link from the motor to terminal 1P on the CPU, a blue/orange wire. But for it to work you need the other wires to be in place too, i.e. power to the fuse, then blue/green from the fuse to the motor and the washer motor, violet/green to the washer switch and terminal 2O on the CPU, and blue/black from the wiper switch to terminal 2M on the CPU. All assuming you have the correct CPU, i.e. not the one for the saloon which didn't have a rear wiper!

All this is to allow the nice features of the BA wiper, i.e. the programmed wash/wipe, and the feature of it doing 3 wipes when you first turn it on, then automatically going in to intermittent.
